how to clean up after the loggers?

I second the recommendation of having someone look at what you have. Timber can make you more money long term than mowing acres of grass. FWIW, a prime Paulovnia log can go for $6,000. Handle the tax situation correctly and most of the money can be yours.

If they'll grow in your area, eight acres of Paulovnia would be a small fortune.

Darren, do you have any experience with Paulownia trees? I'd never heard of them 'til we were looking on the net for for some wood for a duck decoy carver friend of mine. They sound too good to be true. I thought about starting a tree farm growing them, but it appears Japan is the main purchaser of the logs. I haven't seen anything about a large market for them. Thought I'd plant 4-5 acres a year for the next few years and could make the first havest in 8-10 years, right about the time I can retire. Have land in central MS, trying to find some gov programs and grants to qualify for. They don't make it too easy with all the paperwork. Frustrates you and you just throw up your hands and say "The heck with it!!". Sometimes I wonder if that's their plan all along. I'm still thinking about doing it and time is passing me by.
