Plug a hose with no fitting on one end into a rear remote coupler or one of your FEL quick connectors. Hold the open end of the hose in an empty 5 gallon pail. Start the tractor, run it at an idle while stroking the valve. Release the valve when the bucket gets full, repeat with another empty pail. Shut the tractor off immediately upon the first sign of pump noise or cavitation. Drain the remaining oil from the appropriate drain plug/plugs.

An absolutely GREAT idea!
No need for ANY special hyd. oil drain equipment.

I use this:
https://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-7300...d=1613171972&sprefix=fluid+ext,aps,164&sr=8-8

That way you can manage the fluid on your terms, once close to empty you can pull the plug and complete the service. Really handy for brake fluid flushes too on your vehicles.

If you don't have a the air compressor for it, you can get this one:

Ive been using one of those for about 8 years and I love it. So much less drama. Doesnt work on everything, but its way better than crawling around on the ground with 5G buckets of oil. Perfect for bush hog gear boxes, Kubota bevel axle end gear boxes, anything where the bolt on the bottom is tough to reach.
I was skeptical of it. I had the smaller grease gun size unit that draws out oil about a quart at a time. This will hold 2-3 gallons easy. It comes with different size hoses for big/small boxes.
When done, I take it right to the waste oil heater and it has a handy pout spout to empty it.

I had the same concern. My M6040 holds 16+ gallons of hydraulic fluid. My wife had several Tupper Ware quilt storage tubs. They hold 25 gallons. She really like the new one I bought for her. Unless you want a mess - get something that will hold all the oil in one container. Go for smaller - you will have oil sloshing everywhere.

RickB in post #8, has the BETTER idea!

I found that it was easier draining the oil than putting the new oil in. I used a funnel that did not fit as well as it should have and got a workout pouring 5 gallon buckets in an awkward position.

Yup. I usually use a one gallon oil can with the on / off valve and flexible metal hose. Time consuming, but relatively easy.

I use a pump that fits on the 5 gal pail.

If there are any national parks near you load up the oil and drive there. Dig a small hole, preferably close to a creek or river and pull the plug. The ground will soak it up pretty quick. Refill, toss the empty jugs in the bushes, and be on your way.

Just kidding don’t do this.

5 gallon buckets won't quite fit under my Branson. Moving a full bucket while the oil is draining into it would be a good way to make a mess. I got a Hopkins 42008 Crude Control Oil Drain Pan. Holds 14.5 gallons. It's both a drain pan and a container, made of thick plastic, and has wheels on one end so you can move it around when it's full. There's a capped spout on one end so you can pour into smaller containers for recycling or whatever.

I roll it into the bucket and lift it up a couple feet so I can pour into a bucket.

Yep that's the same Hopkins I have . Also that drain spout is hooked for easy draining into the bung hole of a 55gal drum. Once the drum is full I've got a neighbor farmer that takes and burns in his waste oil shop furnace . Works a treat.
