Not many people throw their old oil in the fuel tank.

An old farmer friend did this all the time... add a quart of old strained oil to each tank... have no idea the good or bad... his D4 with pony motor outlived him!

It works on older motors. However, the repair bills from doing this on a modern diesel will be 100x any fuel savings.

I was thinking it must be something like that... the only other person I know has an old Mercedes 300D from the 70's and he burns grease and used motor oil... something like 300k on the motor and trans...

Is there a local bank that keeps loans "in house"? Luckily we have a small local bank that does this, I think they are rather rare these days. A friend of mine was looking for financing on 40 acres near me and tried a big bank first. They said no deal. He tried the local bank where I have my land loan and they can do it for him.

Very true in that all not all banks see things the same...

We had a great savings and loan with 22 branches... it was still a family business... they were able to make decisions and exceptions... that all changed when they merged with a National Bank.

Still remember my 16 year old brother getting a Mastercard in only his name with no cosigner... the branch manager approved it saying if my brother did not pay... it would be a problem for him since he approved it.

We have always worked... started paying into Social Security at age 12... so did my brothers... at one time having a regular paycheck was the difference in how you were treated by the bank...

Today, my brother still does business in the millions of dollars with the bank with Real Estate and it all started when he opened a checking account at age 14 with his first paycheck and credit card at 16... no parent involved...

Lest anyone think the manager was totally reckless... the credit card had a $200 limit and my brother had about 7k on deposit...

Yeah, my 17 year old has had a credit card (really a plastic checkbook, with a limit and tied to her checking account) for over a year, a bank account, a good balance, a job, and great grades at school. Responsible is responsible. Its all in how they're taught. I had a checking account after high-school. Credit cards were taboo back then.

First card was a Sears card and my Grandmother had a fit... said she did not believe in credit and that is how many of her friends got into trouble in the Depression... had to promise never to carry a balance and never have.

I think the first card I had was Sears. As I recall, I signed up because I saved 10% on a new suit!

I only have two cards now. One is a MasterCard tied to my checking account (used just like a credit card, not debit card). The other is our "BIG CARD!" It's tied to our home equity line of credit and stays locked up in an undisclosed location.
