still looking
I picked up this yesterday. First time owning one, and still a newbie with anything hydraulic. I had the seller run the chipper first and it performed ok. But I noticed the fluid dripping out of his remotes when he disconnected was a muddy brown/coffee and cream sort of color. So I am guessing there's water in it? I quick call to my local dealer says I should drain it and its as simply as pushing the pin on one of the hoses. That simple? I'm thinking that all of those gear housings would want to drain out too?

What's the best way to tackle this as a DIY? Thanks for any help.

I would take the fitting/QD off the return hose and place in a bucket and connect the pressure up and run the chipper for about 10 or 15 secs.

When the fluid looks the same as in your tractor, should be good enough.

Replenish the fluid in your tractor.

That's a good idea. Now, the question is, which is the return hose?

Ports on motors are usually the same because they run both fwd and rev, same pressure.

You could look up the data for the hyd motor if it is available.

Did you get a parts manual with the chipper? Could download the manual.

Just confirming what JJ said. The hydraulic feed motor on my BX62 runs in either direction so it doesn't matter which hose you hook up and which goes in the bucket.

I guess I'll have to download the manual from somewhere. I don't know which motor is the hyd motor. :confused2:

In the bottom of your picture there is a hydraulic motor to run the toothed cylinder. I can tell what else the hoses go to from the angle of your pictures.

It's possible you have another hydraulic motor on roller higher up, just can't tell from the pictures, wrong angle.

You don't need to know. There are only two hoses. To flush, hook one up and take the end off of the other. I think you're going to want to have someone holding the hose in the bucket because it is not a low pressure return line but a high pressure line. Have the tractor at low idle.

After fluid has gone through a hyd motor there is no resistance, and therefore no or very little pressure.

Are the hyd motors in series or parallel.

Anyway, just add enough fluid to rotate the hyd motors.

If they are 3 cu in hyd motors, then it will take about 3 cu in of fluid to rotate the motor one revolution.
