How To Flush & Change Coolant?

On our Kioti DK5010 we tried to change the coolant. It takes 2.3 gallons but only drained out about a gallon and a half. My friend thought that the thermostat was closed and it was preventing the coolant in the engine to drain. Watching some YouTube videos on doing flushes on cars they drained the old coolant out with the engine cold without a problem. What are we doing wrong???

Usually there is a drain plug in the engine block which will allow you to get out a bit more

I have never taken out a thermostat to drain coolant. You can drain most systems at the radiator drain, remove the lower radiator hose, or open a block drain (if present).
I don't use the radiator drain petcocks because they are usually plastic and easily damaged.

If you still can't get the block fully drained, drain and flush several times with the last couple cycles with distilled water. Then calculate the amount of concentrate needed to bring the total volume to 50/50.

All diesels that I've owned (6) have had engine block coolant drains a little bit above the oil filter. Some have had plugs in the thermostat housing you can remove to help to drain the coolant (the JD 4010 would not drain at all until I took that one out).

Many drain completely from the radiator drain.
