thanks k0ua it makes so much sense now when i think about it lol very embarrassed i knew it was a brake but got confused so what is that knob for anyway..lol ....those two peddles stay together with that yellow flip thing but when do u take it off?

OK the "yellow flip thing" or pedal unlock/Lock bar is to split the brake pedals so that you may operate the brake pedals independently. The reason to operate the pedals independently is so that you may decrease the turn radius of the tractor, or when the front wheels are off of the ground, (loader scraping operations) that you may steer the tractor with your feet. Now that said, on your particular model of tractor this is more problematic in that you do not have two right feet.:) it is difficult to push on the hydrostat pedal and to push on one of the now split independent brake pedals at the same time..Here is a method you can use: You can push forward with your left hand on the cruise control lever, and now move your single right foot to one of the independent split brake pedals to steer the tractor in the direction you wish or to pivot the tractor around the now slowed down/stopped wheel. Does it make sense that if you lock say your right rear tire that the tractor will attempt to pivot around this locked tire to the right? Play with it a bit and you will get the idea. You will have to return the cruise control to the rear by hand because with the brake pedals unpinned the cruise will not be returned to the rearward position by itself when you press on the brakes, Only if they are pinned will it do that.. so be prepared, do not do this operation near a building at you might be in for a nasty suprise if you become confused and do not return the cruise control lever to the rear by hand.. practice this out in the open where you are not going to run into anything. Never unpin the brakes if you are going to run fast down a road, because if you hit the brakes to avoid something and you pressed only one brake pedal then the tractor will veer off of the road and not stop in a straight line.

Good luck, go play and learn.. another use for "split brakes" is to slow down a spinning rear wheel, so that the other wheel will have some more tractive force.. but enough for today....

Go to the INDEX OF KUBOTA BOOKS and download the operators manual for the L4400HST it is nearly identical to the MX5100 in the operation and location of knobs and levers.
Then go to the parts manuals section and download the parts manual for the MX5100HST.
These may help you to better understand your tractor. Good looking machine and would likely be the tractor I would buy if I were to buy today.:thumbsup:
