how to get Boomer to dealer for warranty work

Danny,
I guess I'm little surprise and maybe spoil by my dealer.
I take it your warranty has run out??? and if not I'm sursprise the dealer doesn't make time to come and get your tractor for repairs, since you had past history problems.
The other post about getting credit $75.oo..ummmm..I would have more than a frown.
If you took your time an traveling to the dealer you wouldn't even notice any wear on the tires, for your not hauling anything.

Danny, if the tires on the trailer are in decent shape, I'd take it easy and go for the 20 mile trip. If you have a problem, unload the tractor and drive the rest of the way. You didn't say what kinds of roads you will be travelling on, but I wouldn't suggest driving 70 mph down the interstate with it. Load the trailer and drive around to see how it feels first, but if it seems okay, I'd surely go with the trailer rather than trying to drive the tractor. I'd keep that as only a last resort. ...my two cents.

Danny, any of the guys' suggestions should work, but I sure wouldn't worry about driving my tractor 20 miles down the road (in 2WD of course) if I had the time and the traffic was such that I didn't worry about getting run over. Quite a few times, I've driven mine to my brother's place, and then back later the same day; 15.45 mile round trip.

On your other pto post you stated the dealer came out on 9-26-01 to check pto and said it was ok.. I would bring this up to them nicely about them being out previously and you were still having the problem. They might not though since the 1/2 hour phone call on the steering stabilizer service call. Might try calling NH and explaining the situation. The pto should not disengage itself past the "detent" if everything is ok.. You mentioned a vibration-make sure the implement (mower??) is not vibrating thru the pto shaft walking the pto of the tractor out of gear. If all else fails I would try to come up with the $100 and if the pto still came out, you would not pay the delivery charge again to try to correct the problem. Your trailer doesn't sound big enough, renting a tariler would be 2X35, and most drivers give tractors little respect on the road.

Not sure where you're located, but dealers I have dealt with in Virginia have trailers they rent...or have list of places that rent sufficiently heavy trailers.

But in my one service call so far my salesman actually drove up and picked up the tractor and returned it, at some savings to me....but still expensive enough to suggest I consider buying the service manual.

Good luck!

Thomas..NH, No the warranty has not run out, that’s what bugs me about having to pay anything for warranty work.

JimI, I can take back roads the whole way. When my brother was here we talked about loading it on my trailer and seeing how it handled the load, but it was 10 degrees outside and I’m a wimp when it comes to cold weather so I decided to wait until it warms up some. I might still try it as a last resort, but I’m going to ask around more for a trailer to borrow first. I’m working on a lead now that might work out.

BobinCols, …You mentioned a vibration… The mechanic who looked at it a while ago said it was just vibration causing the lever to take up slack in the linkage. This vibration is just the normal vibration of the tractor when it’s running, with or without the PTO engaged, and it’s not very much. He test drove it some at that time, but was not able to get the lever to move because he didn’t put the mower under a load. I tested it since and discovered that if the PTO is not running at (or very near) the normal PTO operating speed, then the lever doesn’t move. But, as soon as I speed up to normal PTO operating speed, it moves back within a half hour. My mower is still fairly new and runs smooth, however I have not had the opportunity to test the tractor on any other mowers. That’s what I was hoping I could get the dealer to do. I think part of my problem is that the dealer thinks I’m imagining that there is a problem and they don’t believe there really is a problem, so they feel like I’m wasting their time and money.

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, I’m not related to the guy in the movie “Straight Story”. I thought it was a great movie though!

Dann Y,
I have roaded my tractor several times to my dealer. He is eight miles from my house. I can’t tell any difference in my tires. Just make sure that you are in two wheel drive and that your radiator is free of dust or pollen. One time about half way there, mine started to get warm. I found out later that I had forgot to clean the radiator after I brush hogged and the radiator was partiality plugged. Chest height rag weed will really plug up a radiator. It make’s my red tractor look like it is a yellow industrial tractor. I was fine working at the farm, but running at near max. rpm for that far will make it warm up to much.

I made a couple of 15 mile round trips with my tractor when it was fairly new and it was no problem. I have R4s on it and if there was any wear because of the trips it was not discernable by looking at the tires.

On another note, my dealer has made 2 trips to pick up my tractor for small warranty items. I live about 15 miles from him, and he picked it up and delivered it both times for no charge at all. I asked him the first time he picked it up if there was going to be a charge, and his response was "you shouldn't have to pay anything for a repair covered under a warranty". It sure seems to me like your dealer isn't trying very hard to keep your future business....

My Kubota dealer has informed me that pick-up and deliver of the tractor will be free for all work (warranty or service) as long as they remain my "service dealer". Seems fair to me!

I don't know much on the subject, but you may want to check on your insurance before driving very far on a public road.
