It throws ok when not CLOGGED! I was hoping to add some extra air flow to prevent the clogging. I am sure my blades are dull but it sure clogs up a lot.

sharpen it up then.. i bet it will be fine after that. You got to have sharp blades or youll tear the wood instead of shearing. also check the anvil gap.

I am with Scooby on that. You need sharp knives to cut the wood. The anvil needs to be sharp and set to the right gap. If you open up the chute look for it being gummed up by old sappy wood that might be constricting the output. There should be an intake vent for air to be drawn in. Make sure that is clear. Are the fan impellers in good shape? Is there any wobble in the shaft with the knives at all? Regular grease schedule on all of the grease zerks? Some of the times just fluffy stuff won't go as far as nice heavy chips.

My Bear Cat chipper takes up to 9" material. I power it with a D-15 AC at about 5/8 throttle. I have sharp knives ( 4 on a #185# wheel ) and when it is up to speed it will throw chips in excess 0f 20 feet. A razor edge on the knives is key to proper operation. Have them professionally sharpened so the surface is completely flat. You will be surprised how much better it operates and with less power.

I agree with the other posts regarding the knives and the anvil. Keep them sharpened. Many people figure roughly around 20 hours of chipping between sharpenings. Of course this depends on the wood being chipped.

Make sure you are running the chipper at its rated rpm.

Yes, sharpen the blades and check the anvil clearance and condition. Sure it might be a pain to take them out and do it or get it done, but you'll thank yourself and us.
Dull tools are a waste of time and energy.

The other thing is to make sure the chute is smooth. Even a small amount of rust and rough spots will greatly slow down and catch chips. I sometimes spray mine with silicon spray after cleaning.

How dry is the wood? Not how green is the wood but how dry is the wood.

Well lets see.. I would not try and chip anything I've got sitting in a pile right now becasue it has been raining so the wood is soaked and MUSHY. This doesn't make for good chipping. I personally dont like to chip green wood. It doesn't take that long to let it set and dry to make it easier on the machine.
