how to get field ready for hay

Hmm, Richard, he never mentioned anything about how it was used. I just know he disked the ground, planted the seeds with those drills, usually got two cuttings; the first after it formed seed heads, baled it with a round baler (all John Deere equipment) in sizes of 4' wide and 5' diameter using the plastic wrap instead of twine (just the clear plastic around the diameter, not the completely wrapped as I've seen some sileage). And the reason he used the 4' wide instead of 5' wide was because he had a cabover 18-wheeler with a flatbed trailer and hauled 34 bales at a time to deliver it and didn't want it hanging over the sides of the trailer. I know he occasionally sold just a few bales to local folks who put it out as hay for their beef cattle, but for the dairies /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif it would certainly sound logical to me if it were used for grind feed, although I would have expected him to have mentioned that if it were the case. So, as far as I know, you could certainly be right.
