I'll start by lubricating everything. Then next time I have a load of hay I'll make sure to try and find out exactly what's binding up before I mess with the motor.

With our elevator, I had issues with the motor stalling out and tripping the breaker at one point. I took the motor into a guy who rebuilds them. He replaced the start switch, a capacitor a couple of rusty bearings (IIRC) and it worked fine again.
When we got it back, I cut part of the side out of a 6 gallon bucket so it would fit over the mounting bracket (the bucket goes over the motor and then I can put the lid back on so the rain stays off). That stays on the motor now unless we are moving hay.

Dual capacitors on the motor makes me think it is a high torque unit that someone is trying to supply current to with a $.99 cent Walmart drop cord. I would have the motor checked at a rebuild shop.

Any chance there is a broken key on the motor output shaft there at the pulley?

I put a predator 212cc on mine. 2in to a 16 in pulley and it turns it 225 rpm at 2500 rpm Engine speed.

Farmchains.com has bearing and spockets for this older detachable style chain. Fyi.

Are you sure the belt isn't slipping when the elevator stops moving? If the motor stalled, I would think that it would blow a breaker or activate the thermal overload in the motor.

Looks like this was the correct answer. I'm usually on the receiving end so I never got a really good look at what was going on. First I lubed everything up, then I was the one down bottom putting bales enough. It was just the belt slipping at the motor. The motor was still spinning away with no stress on it at all. So I tightened the belt and it ran with no issues. The lube did at least help it not being annoyingly loud. It used to squeak and make a ton of noise, not so bad now.
