how to get rid of moles?

I sat on the tailgate with a shotgun waiting for the moles to come running out but they never did. Wasted time but the neighbors learned that I was just a bit crazy.

BTDT. Years back my front maintainance building had a dirt floor and I used to carry a 9mm in a shoulder holster. I was getting ready to move something in the building one day when a mole began pushing up dirt right between my feet. I drew my pistol and emptied about 4 rounds of full jacketed ammo into the mound. Didn't have any more evidence of moles in the building for about 5 years or better.:laughing::thumbsup:

Here's some interesting info about moles...

They have twice as many red blood cells per unit of blood than humans. That allows them to live where there is much less oxygen.

They do not hibernate.

They only have one litter of babies each year, usually between 4-6.

If a mole was 6' long it could stand between two cars in a parking lot and shove them apart.

They eat meat, so that means they don't eat plants. They do not eat flower bulbs. Another small mammal, the Vole, often uses mole tunnels to find edible plants and bulbs. You can tell if you have Voles in your mole tunnels by finding nickle size holes here and there in the mole tunnels.

Moles are good for the soil. They tunnel and aerate the soil, allowing water and nutrients to flow. However, those tunnels often undermine sidewalks, driveways and my above ground pool.

I only disagree on one thing you said: Moles may churn the soil, but that is not always good. The most fertile soil is the "A" horizon, the topsoil. Moles just mix the good with the bad (or less good).

Aerating the soil is good if you have compacted soil.
