How to get this off??

I am removing it because this was bought at an auction and it only had half the pto shaft. The half that went to the tractor was missing. I don't think you can buy half of the pto shaft.

The pto shaft that I bought to replace it also a slip clutch, so basically I am trying to get the old shaft off so I can put the new one on. I don't really see how removing the snap rings is going to help me get the collar off the shaft??

SO your down to splitting the old slip clutch and then using PB blaster to break the rust bond in the old slip clutch and then the gearbox side of the slip clutch and remove it.

I would buy some dry ice and wrap it in an old towel and tape the towel to the clamp after you soak it in PB Blaster and after a while it should just fall off the gearbox shaft stub as it is split.

Once you have the half yoke of the old slip clutch off you can see if there is a snap ring or an E ring keeping the compression clamp in place in addition to the E ring or snap ring on the end of the gear box stub shaft if it has an E ring or snap ring.


Use a lot of isopropyl alcohol and a small steel scrub brush to clean the male and female splines before you install the new one making sure you have plenty of never seize brushed in to both mating ends before you reassemble it.
