How to keep a tractor from getting stolen?

Surveilance camera, motion activated lights and signs at the end of your driveway announcing such. This will work wonders. Nobody wants to see themslves on u-tube stealing a tractor!

It would be easy to add an extra switch on the fuel solenoid so the engine couldn't be started. Just put the switch in a hard to see place.
When my father started having health issues and couldn't live in his house I had to improvise to make it hard for thieves. I used motion detectors the first one was in the back porch. If someone came in there it would trigger a light in the living room that was on a 30 second delay. Most people just think of them as having a light right next to them but all they are is a switch. What you connect to the switch is really up to you. The second motion detector was connected to a hidden switch in the porch but was inside the door to the house. It was connected up to an alarm. Thieves don't like lights and they hate alarms. If can set one up I would with lights and an alarm.

Do you really need the tractor now? Can you build the barn then get the tractor? Are there any trees or something you can at least get it out of sight?

While working on my fences yesterday, my dog starts barking. I figure it must be just a coyote or something and keep on working. She kept barking and I figured I better stop and check out what is going on. I have her lead me and I find some turd behind some trees. I ask him what he is doing there (1000' into the property) and he comes up with some "isn't this public land?" BS. I tell him he isn't moving an inch without identification. He sees I have predator protection and stands still. He gives me his driver's license which I took a picture of as well as his picture on my property. The sheriff will not respond to such reports so I explained the rights of private property owners as I escorted the gentleman to the point he climbed my fence and to his vehicle. Never know what these dingle nuts are up to. Think he was just a dip shlt, but who knows? He could be thief.

I generally am not a fan of folks running around with Glocks in their waistbands, but I am beginning to think maybe a shotgun always being handy makes sense. Just remember to lure them into your building before shooting, unless you live in states that respect private property rights.

Wow...that's scary. I'd report that to the police/sheriff just in case...even if they won't respond, they should at least take the report. That way, if something goes sideways later (like he comes back and you deploy your predator control) you have it documented, and that can make a world of difference.

That would throw a thief for a loop, if you had the key changed.
Then, I like the hidden switch idea. I try and put master disconnect switches on equipment, mostly for Fire prevention (I have no insurance) but it is one more obstacle to theft as well.
Unfortunately, many thefts are inside jobs or people with good knowledge of your stuff! That makes it tuffer!
