How to keep from gouging trees

With 40 acres, it would take a lot of pipe to cover all those trees. If there weren't that many trees, it would be different, but I am sure he could avoid a few if that is all it was.
I am thinking remove the earphones, hang up the phone, put down the laptop, and give that a try first, then look into modifying the mower so that it doesn't hurt so much when it hits them.
(Just giving you a hard time about it, as I actually understand the problem, on a smaller scale)

I mow 40 wooded acres. It is all about trying to mow as close to a tree as possible. Also blackberries seem to grow quite close to these trees as well and we try to eradicate them.

So, it is either mowing to close or trying to navigate my way around. Or looking back when I should look forward. or just listening to the headsets and not paying attention to the 90" of murderous steel I have on the front of the machine.

Chuck the Head Set - Pay attention to what you are doing, before you get yourself into some real trouble. If you can't live without you toon's and look where you going. Hire someone to do the job.

Mowing is the most relaxing part of my week. Just sit, listen to music and pray the phone does not ring.

I was just hoping there was something I had not thought of to protect the trees. Guess I will just have to be a bit more careful.

I agree with ditching the distractions, but here are some out of the box suggestions.

Put mulch around trees. Start with ones you really like or hit most. If you have a chipper great, if not contact the power company and offer to take any chippings they get from clearing right of ways. Ask friends and co-workers to give you their grass clippings if they bag. Spray round up around base of trees to control vines etc.

I use 4 inch perforated drainage tile cut about 8-inch or so and slit lengthwise, easily cuts with the $.99 HF scissors, I put a stake next to the tree, then when larger annually put mulch around the base. As the tree gets larger you can either continue the mulch and spray with Wise Up Herbicide Solution (41% Isopropylamine salt of glyphosate) EPA reviewed Wise Up and found it to be substantially similar, to comparable Roundupｮ branded glyphosate. As the trees get bigger you can also use the 8-inch or larger drainage tile the same depending on your needs.

I mow with both a 3pt 6ft finish mower and 3 pt 6ft brush hog, I also listen to headphones thats not a distraction it is holding the drinks

you could try the red green aproach and duct tape pillows onto the mower (or the trees)
