How to keep #pt from floating up?

What are you putting on your 3 point to attach the trailer to? Any chance of adding weight to it to keep the arms down?

I don't see how that would stop the three point from raising if the load was rear heavy.

Well as long as you added more weight than there was negative tongue weight it would keep it down. I am assuming his trailers are loaded in a manner where if unhitched the tongue doesn't pop up in the air. They are likely near balanced or have very little tongue weight. The added weight on the 3pt to trailer ball mount would counter act this and keep it down. Now go set a pallet of concrete on the tail end of the trailer and no it won't help but a trailer shouldn't be loaded that way to begin with.

Most trailers have more length in front of the axle than behind. This gives whatever weight you add on the front a mechanical advantage (leverage) to overcome any weight on the back.

Think of a ballast box with a hitch on it. The trailer would not lift it up unless there was some serious negative tongue weight.

Doesn't answer the OP's question or issue directly, but:

Since I always want weight on my 3ph for good balance against the FEL and not have to install and take off implements all the time - especially just to move a trailer - I add 2" receiver tubes to my 3ph implements, specifically my BB. My BB is pretty much my default 3ph implement; it's fairly compact and weighs over 1100 lbs.

Once I figure out how to add a 2" receiver tube to my 8' EA ED grader blade, I'll really be in business.

That just keeps the draw bar on your lower 3Pt arms from rotating. It does not provide down pressure, so the 3Pt hitch can still ride up.

There used to be a kit for the N series Ford tractors which didn't have drawbars. It was a chain to keep the three point drawbar down (I don't recall what it hooked onto) and ALSO a chain that prevented you from lifting the three point control. If you chain the three point down, somehow preventing yourself from lifting it accidentally seems pretty important.

Here's a view from a set-up similar to what we have for our 8N (before we bought the swinging drawbar kit)

The bars that go from the inside of the lift arm up to the 3pt top link are what keeps the lift arms from rising.

The black piece in the bottom corner is used to keep the draw bar from rotating - needed if you're using a ball type hitch.

How much towing around do you really do? Perhaps just a clamp on receiver on the loader bucket (if you have a loader and bucket)?

I towed around a bit using a 3pt setup on my B7800. Didn't like it. But didn't have much towing to do and I pretty much refrained from towing until I got my NX5510, and now I'm convinced that towing via drawbar is the only way to tow: I've been towing in excess of 11k lbs, something that I'd never consider with a 3pt setup.

I use my 3pt to tow with all the time, being able to back up to a trailer (see it easily) lift up the 3pt and I've got the trailer hooked without getting off the seat. Granted I'll only move around with the trailer like that short distances if I'm relocating something that's in the way etc. For safety if I'm towing a trailer down the road I go with the drawbar. Much more solid a tow point, no chance of it raising of course, it's where the tractor is designed to pull from.
Both methods have their place, depending on the situation one is more convenient then the other.
