How to keep the birds out of your barn???

I've used deer or bird netting with success. It comes in rolls up to 17 feet wide and you can simply staple it to your rafters / joists. Very light weight to work with and last a long time. I've had some up for 10 years and it eliminates the bird roosting problems. Google "bird netting" and you will find many suppliers.

Don't park anything under roosting rafters. It is a problem, for sure. I have a lot of equipment anointed with bird carp

I put some streamers out from a decorative table skirt once to TRY and keep the birds off a pasture I reworked and seeded.

Even thought they moved around a lot in the wind, the birds simply thought they were center pieces on a dinner table.:confused2:

Yeah, it's amusing for us humans to think we can trick a bird visually with flashy objects, fake snakes, whatever. That little bird sees those things with much greater detail than we ever could. Wouldn't you like to be involved in their "dinner table" conversations to hear what they say about our lame attempts?? :)

Second lousy fur trapping season in a row, so I worked my way into Spring getting rid of red squirrels in the nabe.

Starlings are next(!) ;) and I'm working on sets for 'em. All those posts here about pests come to mind and one thing is for sure. You won't get 'em all ... That said, I'm thinking of dangling conibear 110s in front of some key entry points. Maybe they'll shy away after a few have fallen. Pellet gun when I get time to set up & sit in a pop-up blind near roosting trees during my uh .. work breaks.

Since my barn doors are so tall (13' 6"+), and since birds only fly thru' 'em when they're open I'm thinking of stringing nets (badminton, etc) just inside the doors for when starlings see the shortcut. I know soon enough if that's working to reduce the number of 'fly-ins'.

btw, Spring 'coons will be looking anon for nesting places on shelves they clear, and the cage traps will continue to be baited while shoveling-up scat from Winter's various visitors. You don't win all your battles but you have to be prepared for war.

You sound just like my Dad. I mean that in a good way. He varmit and pest hunted constantly. Here we have Blu-Jays. He hated those birds with a passion that had no description. He was a hunter and they would sit and scream at him while he was on a turkey stand or deer stand. He had a load of shelled corn in the machine shed. He'd set varmit traps in the corn and catch Jays when they'd come in to feed. :)

I'm with ya on the Starlings. I kill every one I can. I saw one fly into one of my Purple Martin nests last year and break all the eggs!!!!!

English Sparrows rank pretty high on my list as well. I've saw them take over a Bluebird nest.

My neighbor has a "gets em all" tool for Coons.

I have one of these. Sometimes it even keeps ME out of the barn. Shuts up the noisy neighbor kids, too. It can be set pretty loud. 12v deal even works from the golf cart... Got it at a garage sale missing the power supply. Any 12V supply works.

I am on my second year using one of these. It doesnt have to be turned way loud. ... At first you might think its not working. The birds dont suddenly fly away, but they dont hang out anymore and dont nest. I guess the building becomes a hi anxiety location.

The unit combines predator and distress calls for a variety of birds. Also helps if youre a wild card threat [yell, throw stuf, blo air, etc] during a call sequence if you happen to be there when it goes off.

I think the streamers work better as windsocks for the birds during flight ops! ;)
