Hello,
I looked in the archives but did not find a good solution. I’m planing on expanding a small apple orchard and it will be going in a spot that is 100’x100’. The land was formerly forest, and was cleared 20+ years ago. Where there were large stumps there are now large divots - 6’x5’ by 6-12” deep. They have partially filled in over the years, but add them to the slightly undulating land 2’ higher and lower than level ground in spots, and tractor seat time can get ‘exciting’!
I tried using my ABI TR3 attachment. It is a great piece of gear for gravel road repair and level ground maintenance, but not doing what I need right now. I was given an old AC 3-bottom plow that was pulled by the draw bar and not on a 3-pt hitch, and haven’t figured out how to adapt it yet. I’m looking for suggestions. A big clincher is I only have about 6-8” of topsoil over sandy loam then sand below that. I live near the coast in New England and that is how a lot of coastal land is. If I just push off the tops of the small rises I’ll most likely be into the sand level. Nothing simple here. The only silver lining is that I found 300 or so yards of topsoil from when the land was cleared. This can be used as fill if need be. I also have a large backhoe and skidsteer at my disposal.
Thanks.
