I like to file worthwhile tractor tips in my brain BEFORE I have the need. So simple; so potentially useful.

Thank you for posting.

Certainly will not work on all tractors!

Thanks for posting this. Always need all the tips I can get. I don't own a MF or Ford N tractor but occasionally we move them about for neighbors. Good to know. Have a great day.

Actually....it won't work on MOST tractors.

That was the biggest downfall of the n-series. The hydraulics are driven off the PTO shaft. Similar to an external PTO pump like a backhoe attachment would have....just internal is all. So obviously spinning the shaft is operating the pump.

But it sucks when running. Because you have to have PTO running to raise implement. Hooking up to a tiller or bushhog....DONT hook up PTO shaft. Raise implement first THEN hook up shaft. And hopefully you don't have hydraulics that bleed off that fast.

Ever wonder why old farmers always set PTO implements like that on blocks? Now you know.

Almost all tractors made after the era of the n-series Ford's....this simply won't work on. And if you have an overrunning clutch on your N...won't work either unless you take it off
