How to make Tractor tires last longer???

My kubota dealer had a can of black tire treatment setting on the shelf and it looked to be at least 10 years old. Went in to buy some parts for the hay baler, and he gave me two qts. to get it off the shelf. Painted on the rear tires and it filled in the weather checks and cracks pretty well. It did not come off when plowing snow either. Great product used it and do not remember the name.

It's odd that you mention that because I have used Kubota Tire Black and really like it. It does what you say and helps keep the rays of the sun off the tire and sunlight is really harmful to tires. I have also found that overinflating the tires maybe 5 lbs over the winter worth doing since the tire sits firmer and doesn't sag. I don't know if anyone still makes tire black but it really seals the tire. I'd buy some if I could find it.

There is no doubt sunlight is the killer of ag tires. I have seen tires many decades old on tractors that were mostly stored in dark barns and they looked great with no checking.

I had the same rear tires on my previous tractor for 25+ years with no evidence of wx checking, material breakdown etc. The most important thing - keep the tires out of the sun. I don't care what you spread on your tires - if they are in the sun it will be an early death.

I don't know about kubota tire black, but I have had excellent results with 303 Aerospace Protectant.

Here is a description: 303 Products 30308 - Protectant | O'Reilly Auto Parts

I only put it on the sidewalls. The tires stay cleaner - the mud doesn't stick as much - too!

GrnPwr,

I also spray it on the vinyl seat cover and then give it a quick wipe. I usually try to give leave it for ~15 minutes to soak in before setting on the seat again.
It seems to give the vinyl seat cover renewed flexibility - but without making it slippery.

I also use it on my wife's car dash & tires, my truck tires and my utility trailer tires.

The thing I like the most about the 303 product is that it doesn't make the conditioned surface shiny or slippery...... it just looks like new vinyl/rubber.
It also does NOT attract dust like ArmorAll does. When I apply it to my vehicle tires' sidewalls, I simply give them a quick & light spray...and let them be. I don't wipe them at all. For new-to-me used or older tires, I usually give them a spray every other day for three days,,,You'll see it shaping up & lookin' good!
The 303 will freeze (but it won't hurt it) nevertheless, you may want to keep it above 32*F.
GP, I hope you come back here and tell us all your opinion on it! :drink:

Yup- 303 is the ticket. After years of trying this and that, I finally discovered 303 (well, I read about its virtues) and got some. Seems to work just as the earlier posters said! Keeping your tires out of the sun is the best prevention.

Hmmm...I must be lucky I guess. My rear tires are 3,000 hrs / ten years old and no signs of weather damage at all. I don't use anything on them and run pressures really low for better traction. The treads getting pretty worn, but I figure they've got another 300-400 hrs left. I have 10 ply SS tires on the front now. They're barely worn at all. The stiffer sidewalls work much better for loader work too.

That's 4 bucks more than O Reilly's.

I buy my 303 - by the gallon - online; then just refill my qt spray bottle.
Even with shipping charges included, by surfin' around, it can be had for less $$/ounce than I can buy it locally.
