I could have, but my buddy handed me the right sized socket with an extension. The shorter length made it easier to see how the heater was seating into the block. Either would have worked just fin.

Well, it's pressed in, not threaded. The threads on the outside of the heater are garden hose threads, so I got a brass female garden hose to 1/2" NPT adapter and build a slide hammer with some pipe. I'll thread the fitting onto the heater, and use a slide on the pipe to unplug it. My mechanic neighbor is going to help me in his heated shop, so I'm hoping it'll be a tidy process. I suspect that it'll take longer to put the front end up on jacks and pull the engine cover off :)

Al,
I tried your method but the heater did not move. As a matter of fact I started to mess up the threads on the garden hose fitting. What is the magic word to get the old heater out ? A local dealer installed it when he put on the cab.
Any suggestion would help.

Thanks

Anyone ????

Why not call the dealer and ask if they generally use sealants in this application. If so, what type?

With some sealants, it might be necessary to use heat to aid in the removal process.

Since you provide no clue to what type of tractor you have, are you certain it is the same design?

The clue is the first posting and the pitchers..... looks like what I has......
My dealer did this about 5 years ago and the installer no longer works there so he can not ask him......
but he offer to install the new one for $92.00 per hour door to door..... he is about 45 min away....

Guess I will try some heat.....

With the heat index in triple digits, working on cardboard soaked in sweat underneath my truck and tractors this week, I appreciate a cool topic. My fat leaks much more the older I get. Liked the tooling trick for removing the bad heater.

Cheers to hard cider!
