I removed the left rear axle on my subcompact and found it sheared clean just where the splines begin. I need to know if there is any way to remove the splined end left in the tractor. It would save hours of transmission removal and tear down if I could somehow extract the splined end via the axle housing. Its about 10inches inside to the axle housing but it looks like it sheared fairly even with the bearing so I don't know how much there would be to grab onto. Any ideas??

Do you really expect an answer with the info you gave here!

The redneck way is to take a welding rod, slide it into a piece of PVC pipe (as a guide and insulator) and stick it to the stub. Let it cool and pull.

If the splines aren't twisted you might try a magnet attached to a broom handle or something similar , use same magnet to get any small pieces that may be insde

I would try a magnet to see if it just slides out. But there could be a c-clip holding the shaft in the diff which means getting to the diff to take it out.

Not knowing any tractor info would just be a shot in the dark.
But given that, pull other axle out, run something through and knock it out from other side. Although might not work on some tractors.

Thanks so much for the excellent suggestions.

I will order a rare earth magnet. In the meantime I think I'll try the redneck way E/S suggests using a welding rod in pvc. That is truly ingenious. I usually have no problem getting a welding rod to stick when I don't want it to.

That's another good idea. I would have to catch it somehow but a magnet would work for that. I'm not sure if the differential is open to the other side but from the looks of the parts diagram I might be able to get a small rod thru. Thanks for the suggestion.

FYI, he has a Cub 5252 and probably needs a maintenance manual.
