I have heard of storing gas before, but to dump it in the trunk

seriously cutting out the carpet was the best thing to do.

My Dad did the same thing in his new mini van, and he spent all summer trying to air it out to no avail. Finally he removed the carpet, scrubbed the floor with ajax-comet and replaced the carpet with a new one.
