Welcome to TBN.
If the transmission is a top loader (meaning the shifter goes down through the middle of the top) it probably has a spring under it pushing up against a locking ring clip. If you push straight down on the shifter you should be able to remove the clip using a small pocket screwdriver or ice pick. Once removed the shift lever should come straight up.

mine has coller at bottom of shift lever with pin through it, remove pin and the lever spins around.
