How to repaint pallet forks?

I have had wonderful success spraying two part epoxy metal primer, followed by whatever enamel you want. I also have found that Kubota's spray paints, and cans of their enamel, cover and hold up much better than big box paints like Rustoleum and Krylon. The paint may wear off, like on loader bucket lips and scraper blades, but the primer seems almost indestructible. Just get the metal clean and bare, for the most part. I don't have a sandblaster worth the name, but a wire wheel and then pressure washing gives me a decent, clean surface.

Another reason for using krylon crystal clear is my forks have a lot of labels on them and the black paint was dull and weathered but not peeling or worn off of the frame, so I painted over with the crystal clear and they look like new!

Just applied 2 coats of Rustoleum dark grey auto primer to my pallet fork frame.

It came out surprisingly nice and just the color I wanted.

Can I apply Krylon crystal clear as a finsih coat directly over the primer?

If so, will it provide a good durable finish surface?

I think so. But I will let the guys that work with paint for a living weigh in. I have no special qualifications.

I would think you could. Test it if you don't want to take a chance. Prime another piece of steel and final coat it with Crystal Clear. I use two coats of CC when I do my bucking bars.

Just a little something I do to my forks, I paint the tips florescent orange (a lot of touch up as I use them) just to make it easier to see the tips as I am using them. It also helps from getting your ankles bit if the forks are ever left pointing up as you walk in front of your tractor!

Well now, that doesn't seem like a bad idea!
