I have had wonderful success spraying two part epoxy metal primer, followed by whatever enamel you want. I also have found that Kubota's spray paints, and cans of their enamel, cover and hold up much better than big box paints like Rustoleum and Krylon. The paint may wear off, like on loader bucket lips and scraper blades, but the primer seems almost indestructible. Just get the metal clean and bare, for the most part. I don't have a sandblaster worth the name, but a wire wheel and then pressure washing gives me a decent, clean surface.
