How to stiffen up a wobbly ladder?

we would cut those aluminum ladders up to use as casting materials. We did some aluminum vaporization casting where you burry a styrofoam mold with a sprue in general purpose sand and pour aluminum right on top of the stryo...it vaporizes the stryo leaving your al casting. The fumes are nasty...dont do inside, but its a neat way to cast.

I ditto the 2 ladder scenario. I had a wobbly 24' aluminum ladder that I bought over 25 years ago. I was always nervous about it when extended 1/2 way even. I was offered a deal on a 34' ladder and though I'd turn it into 2 ladders to do the same job as the 24'er. Well that 34' new ladder is so stiff and secure feeling I now carry stuff up it 1 handed to the top of the barn! The 24'er was wobbly in lateral and in/out positions so it was not caused by loose rungs or ill fitting channels. Why be afraid of a ladder when a new one is a good tool to have around. Go with extra length. too. Having 2 secure ladders made from the sections of the newer designs make a lot of sense.

BTW: There are some good videos on YouTube on how to raise up the longer ladders onto a building. It wasn't obvious to me. The firefighters have posted some training materials that shows how easy it is to do. (And to take them down)! That wasn't real obvious to me either...
