Your absolutely right, LD1,,
but as I stated, if it blows to an oil passage, you'll see it in the oil.
If it blows to another cylinder, you'll see it out the exhaust, etc.
It's when you "can't" see or detect where the leak is, that this test is helpful.
The OP asked how to eliminate the head gasket, I think I answered that.
