How to temporarily protect tractor from weather?

I too am not a big fan of tarps that cover the whole item, thus allowing no air flow to get under it. I am also not much on letting the tarp down on painted surfaces. The wind moving the tarp will scuff the paint, so using something to keep it off the paint is a plus.

commie-mart has 'soft tarps' that are supposed to be easy on painted surfaces...

I've got my boat and tractor under those steel/tarp carports that Costco and Sam's Club sells in Anchorage.

They work quite well if you anchor them (full length green wood 4"x6"x20') and get out there RELIGIOUSLY with a shop broom when it snows!!

Tractor was in barn for first year --- then came the horses and HAY!

I only have a 1 bay garage and very small shed. I may eventually add on to the shed but for now either my large L&G tractor or my small CUT (or just its detached backhoe) have to be outside. I spent maybe $25 for an XXlarge motorcycle cover at one of the bigbox auto parts stores (maybe Autozone?). Hey, if its good enough for someones prized Harley, maybe its good enough for a tractor. It nicely covers either the BH or L&G completely or covers the whole front end and operator station of the CUT. The nice thing about this is its got elastic all the way around the bottom plus a couple of permanent "bungee hooks" AND its made of material that breaths and seems to be quite water proof, probably the same stuff they make lightweight camping tents out of. They sell bigger covers made for various sized cars that are only a few more $$ and might fit a whole CUT with the ROPS folded. The main thing is that you really want to block the sun's UV rays.

You have to be carefull with Tarps. A dark colored one in full sun will become a solar collector and cook your tractor.
I don't think thats good for the paint or a lot of the plastics. And it might also be the attraction for those insects as well. Bee's, ant's, etc love the heat to hatch their new family's.

Has anybody else out there tried the car-cover Idea?

I had a form fitted flannel 'storm cover' that was specifically designed and marketed to fit one of my antique tractors.

I stoppe dusing it.. it seems to be form fitted to touch every grease fitting on the tractor.. and then transfered it to the rest of the tractor every time I took it on or off.

That's why I use the tarp carports... Can't put a tarp right on the tractor as a permanent storage here in fl due to the wind.. as it will abraid the paint pretty quickly..

Unless you are subject to sandstorms its the suns rays that are going to ruin your tires and seat covers. A tractor is supposed to be out in the field/bush all day long...its going to fade....do you want a tractor or a shiney toy?
As far as the tarp covered sheds go, they provide a place for a thief to do his prepwork out of sight and also give a longer time slot before anyone notices the tractor is GONE. Besides, if it ain't a JD, who would want to steal it? :)
