How to un-tighten hydraulic hose

If it's as I suspect, once the blue nut is turned the slightest bit it will immediately be loose and come off easily. It's not the threads that are creating resistance. It's the metal of the nut against the JIC flare metal. Kinda like how an aluminum wheel is sometimes stuck on a vehicle. The two metals tried to bond themselves together.

Oh, forgot to mention, as SimS mentioned, the red adaptor has an O-ring between itself and the cast block. That's how it seals.

The blue nut seals by the mating of the hose flare and the red adaptor.

Agree the adapter is SAE (ORB)...the adapter and hose end could be an ORFS if it's not a JIC or 45* flare...O-ring face seal fittings are more common on commercial machines...

we have JD 270 skid steer and all the hose fittings are ORFS...FWIW...

I think the OP meant pushing up on the red was for resistance of the blue being pulled down...i.e., keep the adapter from loosening in the valve...??

I was going to suggest striking it with a mallet but it seems a cheater pipe would have broken it loose...??

You are correct in your description of how I was moving.

Sometimes the swivel nut Blue really becomes one with the tubing if it starts to rust I have had luck just tapping the nut and tubing with a small hammer and flat end punch especially around the back where the tubing goes in need to do it just enough to break the bond then it should loosen like you were trying.

Hold the Red with a wrench and loosen Blue. It's a collet nut and should spin free once loose.

It's just like Richard described use a long cheater bar and as soon as it moves it should come of easy .

Your problem is the right side of the blue nut . Get to soaking it , put a wrench on the red nut and brace it where it cannot move . Get the wrench on the blue and whack it .

If all else fails, cut the elbow next to the blue nut and loosen the red adapter. Get a new hose and a new adapter.

All good advise so far.

You are moving the wrenches in the correct direction.

Someone likely either used loctite that wasnt needed, or overtorqued the crap out of it which I see all the time. Its not pipe thread, and tighter doesnt mean better sealing. People over tighten JIC stuff all the time because they have no understanding of how it works.

If possible, put your backup wrench thats on the adapter fitting where it will hold itself from spinning. Against the frame of the machine or something. Then the wrench on the hose deeds smacked with a mallet.

And if that dont work, do what others have suggested and cut the 90 off, remove the adapter and whats left together. And buy a new adapter and hose.
