How to unbend a bucket

Biglug:

That may just be the easiest option. Me- think I'd just forget about it cause after seeing a picture of those rocks there are more dings to come! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That's different, it looks like the lip is on the inside of the bucket. I would try the big wrench, also, but once metal is fatigued it never goes back to its original shape. You can get it close, though.

The way I see it, my tractor is just one of the tools I use to get work done. They will get dinged and bent in the process, but so be it. Some here treat their tractor like their car and give a wash and a wax every month. Sorry, I'll hose mine off occaisionally, but it's just a (very expensive) tool.

There will be more dings, so get over it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I agree with the others on this post DINGS or $hit happens...

you can bend it out with big cresent wrench prolly the easiest. if you don't have one then that is a good excuse to get one /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

then take a hunk of square tube, (looks like 2"x2"x (width of bucket x say1/4' thick or 3/16")) and weld it in behind the lip after it is pretty straight. (use some big C clamps to pull it up tight aginst the back side of the bucket lip with one at each end of the sq tube) after you have that tube welded in and the welder setting there stick a few hooks on there to grab with /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif but I fully agree it is a very expensive tool made to WORK and if you are afraid to work her then you only have a an expensive toy...

anyhow if you don't have a welder then I suggest getting one /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif lol

Check with your tractor dealer's body shop manager (see attachment). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey be nice! I used to go out with his sister /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

As far as the dent goes, I agree fix it. My tractor has long since been elevated from farm tool to Prima-Donna status and yes, I'm one of those guys who washes and even waxes my tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif My fix would be to heat the bent part cherry red and then ease it out from behind with a pry bar, then quench the hot metal before it cools.

My thought are use the tractor the way it was designed to be used. It will get scratched, bent and worn. Makes it look like the machine has actualld done some work.. All my tractor buckets have the top lip bent. None have had it straightened. A couple have had it reinforced by welding a plate behind the lip.

I would not heat it. When you heat metal you change the strength and unless you are very careful could end up with a weak spot.

I have straightened my old loader bucket many times. It is easy.

Find a big tree. set the bucket where the bent spot will be up against the tree and at a 90 degree angle to the bend. Drive forward vigorously!

May have to hit it a few times, don't push too hard the first few times or you will have a bend in the opposite direction.

Works on top or bottom edge of bucket.

Us country folks don't always have fancy stuff like torches around so we have to make do with what we have /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
