Once again I am miffed at how to get something done and asking for your wisdom..

I just took my MMM deck (JD 62D) off for the winter.. I am making a set of tire axles so I can stand it on end.. I was out fooling around testing everything out and ran into a problem..

How do you get the MMM up on its end? I have a pulley system used to hang deer for skinning that I thought (my first mistake) that I could use to raise it up and get it on its end.. I thought since the full weight of the deck wasnt on the pulley it wouldnt be too difficult, but I was having trouble getting only one side of it up inches off the floor.. :-(

I havent used the FEL yet but was just wondering if I am overlooking an easier way..

Suggestions glady accepted.. LOL

I have the MOWERAXLES, and I just remove the pins from the rear anti-scalp wheels, the lift the deck a little till they fall out. Then I insert the axles from the top, put on the bottom wheel, then lift the deck a little to get the pins back in. The deck is heavy, but I can do it alone. If the deck is to heavy for you to lift, get a helper with a block of wood to help you lift the rear of the deck and prop it on the block to you get the axles in.

After the axles are in I just lift the front of the deck to get it standing upright.

Thanks for the advise.. I ended up using the FEL to lift it up on the axles.

I thought the mower axles online were in the $90 ranges.. But for my mower they were closer to $135, so that is when I decided to make my own.

Here is what I used:

(2) 5/8" x 16 L galvanized bolts and nuts (Home Depot ~$6.50 each)
(4) 8" wheels (TSC ~$12/each) - these were almost too small
(4) 3/4" to 7/8" bushings ($3.50/each) without them the mower rocked to much since it was a 5/8 axle and a 7/8 mower hole
(2) 9" pieces of plastic pipe so the bushings would be kept in place..

The axles I made do work, but I had to make some minor considerations along the way. Im my mind i was going to put the plastic pipe on both sides of the deck, but it had to go on one side because of the was the deck was made.

For about $75 I now have a set of axles that keep that huge 62D deck from taking up so much acreage in my garage..

If anyone is interested I can post pics.. I will say this - it was fun making this, but I would have bought a set of axles if they were in the $90 range. I made quite a few trips out to try and figure out how to make it all come together..

heh once i get my barn up to snuff ill be making a wall hanger for mine.

now that i think about it I may have to make a whole stand to put my bb snowblower and mower all on. make a qa 3pt hitch so that i can lift the pieces up to the roost and have all 3 points pins hydrolic so that i can retract the pins and go on with life.
