Gets awful dirty, is it ok to blast the engine compartment with a hose? Need to protect anything first?
THANKS /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I guess the experts usually say to protect electrical wiring, alternator, etc., but I never had a problem just blasting away, only avoiding the air intake.

I've always washed my car engines at the wand typecarwash. Just made sure the engine was warm and rinsed the alternator well with clean water after the soap cycle. This was with the distributor/point systems too. Have done the same with my Kubota but could not get all the extra grease off the loader pin areas.

Rain and more rain. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I just blast the engines (everything for that matter) w/ power washer.
Just watch rubber hose ,it can cut them, and stay away from the vents for rear end and front axle.
Diesels don't have electronics for ignition.
Use hot water to help take grease off.
Some kind of presoak will help too.

I use air, a blowgun with long wand and rubber tip. This is especially good for radiators. Of course, this will not do much for the grease and mud on the underside, where a pressure washer is best. Gunk will help to soften the caked on stuff.
RoosaMaster, for one, warns against getting cold water on a hot injector pump, and you can crack a hot exhaust manifold or turbo housing (if so equipped). Also, I always grease after pressure washing, as a pressure washer can force grease out and water in where grease belongs.

Murph,
If I said that to my wife, she would slap me silly! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Just kidding, she is great... she just doesn't understand my facination with blue. She thought I was crazy when I spent a half of a Saturday detailing my tractor. Washed and dried every inch, even gave her (the tractor, not my wife /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif) a coat of wax!

Well don't feel bad. A couple of weeks ago she washed the suburban, and I washed the tractor. I waxed it and everything. I spent more time on it than she did on the suburban. And she didn't slap me silly but she sure did shake her head and laugh at me.
