After you wrap it in wire. Wrap a layer of rubber plumbing tape over it. If you have any pin leaks it will seal them off.

Edit sorry. I be leave that is rubber electrical tape.

I know the stuff. Its rubber and you stretch it until its width is half, and it fuses (vulcanizes?) together into one continuous layer.
