I "wash" my hands with about a tablespoon of Crisco baking shortening, wipe it off with paper towel, then wash with dish soap and hot water. Pretty cheap and very effective.

I use Fast Orange on my hands and Simple Green to get diesel out of my clothes.

If you have any other questions about diesel odor direct them to the TBN expert on diesel smell in clothes Bob Skurka. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

OK Guys, seriously, did I miss the memo that it is "Make fun of Bob Week" This is the second time in a week. Of course this time I have not been acused of wearing the Catholic girls uniforms. I still need to send Junkman bills for my therapy.

OK, for those of you too lazy to look up my mistakes, and for the new folks, here is a link so you can relive all the errors I have commited and make fun of me all over again: Getting Diesel Smell Out of Clothes

And if you want to read more about my mishaps (my post starts about 2/3rd of the way down the page): Getting Diesel scent out of clothes

Any of the 'orange' cleaners.. like fast orange.. or citrus gojo .. goof-off.. etc.. all work perfectly. I also find that a regular amount of hand cream applied to your hands before work allows paint and oil/fuel smells to be much more easilly washed off at the end of the day.

Now if we are talking diesel fuel and clothes.. bout' the only way I've found to get fuel out of them is to burn them! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

If its just on your hands scrubbing them with sand or saw dust and then using dish soap also works.

I picked up a product at Costco yesterday called "Oil Eater" for $7.99 half-gallon and spray bottle. It say it is non-toxic and biodegradable. I sprayed it full strength on the tractor, let it soak for 5-10 minutes then sprayed it off with a garden hose. I did a second application on some built up areas (grease ooze, below the FEL disconnects). All I can say is a very good product.

The bottle has instructions on diluting for laundry use, but I have not yet done that. However, if it does as well as it did with the tractor, "Oil Eater" is going to be used both in the house and the shop.

Okay, you guys convinced me. I'm making my "Sam's Club" run today. Last time there I debated on buying this big, like two gallon, jug of something orange hand cleaner. I've seen it at a lot of shops and garages, but have never used it. I'm one of those "big sissys" who usually use gloves when I can while working on engines etc. You see, I have this "white collar" position, and not everyone understands when I have black grit all around my finger nails and a diesel aroma to me. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Especially when sitting around a board room when all you can see is people's hands and faces.
Yeah, I know, I'm a blue collar country boy dressed up in "city slicker" clothes. Maybe that is why I really like having a cab on my tractor. I've honestly done quite a bit of work on my tractor while wearing a suit and tie. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Now, if that isn't an odd picture! It's just when I get home and there is little daylight left, I don't want to take the time to change clothes. Thus my interest in this thread. You can imagine my cleaners puzzled look when I give them a suit that reeks of diesel fuel!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My wife absolutely loves the smell of fresh diesel as it is indicative of her man nearby. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Even better smelling is the 2-ethylhexyl nitrate (2-EHN) cetane boost, it is really higly sweet and aromatic.

Diesel on blue jeans and work shirts is a NO-NO though, as the whole laundry room reeks.... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
