2013 Kioti DK45SE HST
Almost ready to purchase a new tractor and have my choices down to a LS R4041H/R4047H or Kioti DK40SE HST/ DK45SE HST, primarily depending up how the dealers come back with the quotes for a package deal.

Recently the LS dealer mentioned in his experience, the draft control just raises and lowers the implement (no idea which) too often and he does not use it.

What are your experiences?

I will be posting this same question in the LS forum also.

It's not clear what you're asking? :confused2: The LS dealer was referring to LS or Kioti?
FWIW, I have had no problems with any 3PH controls on either my DK-35 or my DK-40 over +/_ 1000 hrs of use. :dance1:  I run box blade, winch, brush hog, etc.:2cents:

1100+ hours and counting and have no issues with draft control or precise 3pt hitch control with any implement.

LS dealer was talking about his LS. I have nothing but positive responses on both posts- the Kioti and LS forums, so it seems the draft control works well on both brands in this class of tractor.

Does it even matter to you? My DK45S has two levers. The position control controls the position of the attachment on the 3 point hitch, many tractors only have this one control. The actual draft control causes the implement to lift up when it encounters hard resistance. I've never used mine but the draft control would matter if, for example, you were plowing earth. In this situation the plow would raise up when you hit a hard spot, vs stalling the tractor or breaking something. I mainly mow so I keep my draft control full down (no kick up at all). By the way, I have had no problem with the draft or position controls my 2006 model.

It does matter to me if one tractor model has a draft control design that works well and another model does not. The LS R series and DK SE series premium CUTs are so close to one another for my uses, that it is a toss up of which one I will purchase very shortly. Both brands have things I prefer, so I am looking for discriminators to help with a decision, although Kioti is leading at this point due to its operators station layout and loader.

I have been tractor shopping/testing since early this spring, have driven LS models exactly like what I want and have yet to be able to drive a Kioti equipped similarly, even though I have driven to a dealer 150 miles away for seat time in a DK50SE HST (I want a 40/45- same chassis) with turf tires (I want R4) and no loader (I want a good loader).

I have not used draft control and will not be plowing. But will be trying draft control with a 700#+ box blade (thanks to Mtn Vew for the weight advice) and T-N-T. It could be that draft control use for non commercial BB use is just not warranted due to its relatively shallow cutting depth in this particular class of tractor, unlike what Mtn View uses. But if it works with it, I want to use it and to select a tractor that has a good draft control design.

I have used my draft control to help keep from scalloping the area I am trying to level with a BB. I also use it to prevent my Grader blade from going too deep which allows you to raise your implement with the (right)raise lower lever, then return it to the exact same position. Draft comes in handy for specific needs, mine has always worked perfect and I am glad I have it.
Btw, I run T&T too....love it.

Kioti and LS are both good Korean tractors (and there is nothing wrong with Korean tractors). If you want a discriminator, take a hard look at the prospective dealers. You will likely need to buy some small stuff, like filters (does he have that stuff in stock). But if you have a major problem, which guy is going to really take care of you? Will your guy still be in business? Does he have a good mechanic? Does he have a facility to do major tractor work? Can he get parts quickly or will you need to wait until he has enough backlog to place an order? Is he as good as his word?

As I said, I mostly mow (or bush hog) and move stuff with the loader. So your needs may vary. Some features on my machine that I like include: quick disconnect (skid steer quick disconnect interface) for loader bucket, telescoping lower three-point arms, flip-up guard over PTO stub shaft. One thing I dislike is the PTO stub shaft will not turn by hand (making PTO shaft hookup harder). I wish the tool box was bigger but the seat is comfortable for hours. On my gear tractor, there is no crap (like control rods or hydraulic filters) that would get snagged by hanging below the beefy frame. Maintenance points are all pretty accessible; oil level (engine and tranny) is easy to check without opening the hood or removing panels.

Draft control was one of several patents taken out by Harry Ferguson in 1926. The group of patents covered every aspect of the Ferguson invented three-point hitch. These patents expired in 1953. From 1926-1953 if you wanted to manufacture tractors with Fergusion's three-point hitch you had to license it from him.

I doubt if one manufacturers draft control is better than any others. I opine few tractor operators under age fifty years, including tractor salesmen, know how to adjust draft control correctly. Draft control is primarily used when plowing, where soil resistance can vary in a field. And plowing is mostly kaput in USA. Draft Control has, perhaps, some use with a box blade......pretty much superseded by easily adjusted rear hydraulics.

"If you want a discriminator, take a hard look at prospective dealers". Good advice.

Using draft control with a box blade or rear blade, set properly makes a day and night difference in time taken to do the job, ease of the job, as well as how well the out come is. Now I will admit that for light-finish work, for me anyway, it doesn't make any difference or can even be bothersome. ;)
