Grading How well does your draft control work on your Kioti DK40SE/DK45SE in particular?

Using draft control with a box blade or rear blade, set properly makes a day and night difference in time taken to do the job, ease of the job, as well as how well the out come is. Now I will admit that for light-finish work, for me anyway, it doesn't make any difference or can even be bothersome. ;)

I don't have a lot of experience using the draft control with a BB. I agree that for light-finish work, it doesn't really matter what the draft setting is. If I drop the scarifiers, though -- I really have to pay attention. In this case, even if I raise the position control the draft control will allow the scarifiers to dig deeper if I don't have the draft control set correctly. I learned the hard way where my telephone lines cross a back road on the property... That was bothersome.

Ok. I am actually grading some land and now i sense that a better understanding of draft control/position could really be beneficial. I have a lot of l trying to fill... to some degree I have been successful but I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions or perhaps even to help me understand fully how best to use this feature. There are, on each (draft/position), a wing nut style governor of sorts that allows me to go down to a specified depth every time. anyways, i'm sure some of you out there do actually use it correctly.

I will try to help here, but I truly do not know if all the different Draft controls get set in the same manner.

FIRST Set the draft setting on the 3pt hitch at the lightest setting. I DO NOT know what yours is. Some tractors are the exact opposite of mine which happens to be in the top pin location of the top link on the tractor.

SECOND Get you position control set for the depth of cut that you want to make. While making a cut at the cut depth that you want, that the tractor should be able to handle MOST of the time, stop the tractor. Now with the draft control lever, slowly pull the lever up and be VERY closely watching the 3pt hitch. When you juuuuuuust see the hitch raise, STOP. :stopsign: That is where you want the draft setting to be.

Now when ever you grade, use the position control and the draft settings at those points and when it gets to be to much for the tractor, then the implement will raise and not slow you down. It all happens so fast that you won't even know that anything has happened.

Now you probably should use a heavier draft setting when using the rippers, and of course you will need to redo both the position control and draft settings for ripping. I would do that if a lot of ripping needed to be done, otherwise I would not bother with the draft control for only a short periodic ripping.

Hope that this helps, good luck. ;)

Thank you for that explanation. Can't wait to implement ;) it in the morning. With that understanding, as well, I have this video in my mind The Ferguson System Draft Control - YouTube

I watched it again tonight - with the draft all the way up and position all the way down the implement can be lifted by hand.. i'll have to try this one tomorrow- not sure why this is possible but that video definitely confused me a bit. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Thank you MtnViewRAnch. This is an easy to understand and and very functional way to properly setup the draft control.
