How wide a box blade has to be???

Hi everyone, I just bought a new MF 1643 and I,m looking for a box blade. The tractor has a 43 Hp engine and is 6 feet wide. Someone is selling a 6 feet box blade but do I need one foot more (7 feet)???I guess that I need a foot more ....SO... Need your experience on that one . Thanks . Roger

If its a really good deal I would get the BB. There are plent of 7 footer out there though.

My Ford tractor is 6' wide and I have a 6' box blade. I have never seen this to be any problem at all. Mine actually runs a couple inches out on one side and a couple inches in on the other side, so I cannot completely cover my tracks, but in smoothing my new yard, cutting dirt to be hauled to my yard, and general cutting off high spots and cutting out my driveway I had no problems at all. About the only problem I could see would be if I wanted a deep 6' wide ditch with square sides, but that ain't likely.

Typically most people get the width of their loader bucket which usually happens to be wide enough to cover the width of the tractor. While some get 6-12" wider, normally it is a safe bet to just get the same width as the loader bucket. Also keep in mind that all box blades are not created equal, lots of different things to consider.

The brand that is for sale is a Bush hog, I,ve asked the seller the model and the price ( via the net, ain,t got an answer yet). I know nothing about box blade except what I red on TBN .I,ve seen some that are extreme duty but the price is extremely over my budget ( but I know that I need one for our driveway). The new 1643 is not all paid yet.:laughing::laughing:Have a nice day.

If you want to maintain your driveway, maybe consider one of these. These road grader blades work very well for maintaining a road.

I like a box that will cover my tire tracks.. if you are 6 and you find a good deal on a 6.. go for it.

I put a 7' Land Pride on my L5030, but a 6' would have worked also, I would buy it if the price is right Bush Hog makes good equipment.

Depends on your ground too, I have to deal with Rock, clay and nasty terrian, bought a heavy duty Woods BB and still have concerns about bending it with a 6 foot BB on a 6 foot 50hp tractor. I could probably work a 8 foot in silty sandy ground but not here.

This is actually a very good point. I have a 5ft behind my JD855 and in the rocky ground I work with, it's pushing the limits of being too wide. Between the rocks and roots, I get stopped quickly if I'm not careful.

That box blade with one tooth dropped is great for getting rocks out of the ground though. Plucked a bunch out today. :thumbsup:
