I was thinking I might do the manly thing and just ask my wife to go down there and introduce herself and see if the coast is clear.

I'm from around here and the neighboring county. If something needs doing or somebody needs something you just do it.

as said above after getting my Kubota I usedthe FEL to shovel driveways did not charge. New guy moved in and over the one summer and when it snowed I was going to shovel his and he said he would do it, he said he like to shovel snow I told him so do I now that I have the FEL. The next year as I was doing the driveays I noticed his was not done yet so I did it. Later his wife came over and said thanks that he was in sick and was really hating having to go out and shovel the snow this time.

I have never charged as they did not ask me to do it, I just did it so I could play with my new toy.

But being they are new and may not be use to that kind of treatment, you might want to let them know you were trying to get a place so the kids could come and play. That way they know it was neighbor

That's a nice gesture its something I might do also depending on how I felt about them and you obviously felt ok about it.

Id call or stop by or wave them over if they happen by and ask if I wasn't out of line so they know who did it and why. And just mention so they dont worry or feel like you are are obligated from now on that you wouldn't be doing it regularly just this once to help give the kids a place to roam.

But if they need a hand give you a call is what I would do plus I would probably mention that you may be out pushing snow here soon and you might drive over and knock the drifts down etc if they wouldn't mind...and you drink ____________fill in. :D

I want to tell you that you have good morals and character. Most of us neighbors around here offer a helpful hand when needed. We neighbors try to reach out and help when illness, surgery, misfortune;etc. affects someone in the community. That's just the right and neighborly and morally way. I respect you for being that way. What goes around comes around. You never know, they may have the chance to reciprocate and help you one day in the future.:)

I have an older neighbor (72) who wasn't too friendly. Not mean or anything just not the wave and smile type. This last little hurricane came through and knocked one of his pin oaks down half on his and half on mine. Well, knowing he's older and would have to haul it I just went ahead and took care of it for him. I have saws loaders and a burn pit, he doesn't.

Needles to say we are buddies now. He was so happy and grateful. 30 minutes of my time and no more grump. Like my dad always said about neighbors. "better friends than enemies"

I agree with others, you weren't out of line. I would just tell them that you wanted the kids to be able to play outside.

I offer frequently, but have not just gone and done something. Neighbor was being nice a few years ago, knocking down weeds and stuff in our neighborhood; mostly 5 or 10 acre lots.

well, the front of our place didn't need it; he took out some plants my wife had put in. He had a hard time manuevering though. He knocked down the weeds by dragging a few tires from big rigs, chained behind his Jeep. Really nice guy, truck driver, but wife was not happy about her plants...

Before we moved to the sub-rural zone, the wife and I lived in appartments. We finally moved from an appartment to a rental house and the first Saturday I came home from work to find our new neighbor mowing the law for us.

Great favor and I appreciated it.

I would send the wife, but I think you are okay, especially since they mentioned about letting the kids out.

I agree with RobertN....I was selling 55 Acres one time and had an ad in the paper so I was out bush hogging it while waiting for a prospective buyer that had called to come to see it...I looked up from the tractor to see a man waving both of his arms and holding up his hands for me to stop ....so I did and jumped down to talk with him....He was the buyer that had called me and he told me he had come early and was out on the property and he would buy it for my price but he said...please stop bush hogging ..I want some of these blackberries and other plants and small trees that have grown here...I stopped and we wrote up the contract and closed and he bought the property....Point is ...you just never know...different strokes for different folks...LOL

Good deed for most people and it may lead to a lasting friendship, just hope they didn't have one of them "high dollar" pot gardens in there:laughing: If so you did great by me!
