How would you measure tip speed on a hydraulically powered mower blade?

I mowed with a Cub Cadet GT for over a decade,, it never mowed great,,
I asked the dealer,, he never gave me a straight answer,,

I would see a JD similar GT throwing out a cloud of clippings,, my Cub Cadet,, just clumps,,

Well FINALLY the CC dealer gave up his Cub Cadet dealership,,
one day, I stopped by,, looking for a part,, and I happened to ask about Cub Cadet cut quality,,
The guy THEN admitted,, all the Cub Cadets from that era had slow tip speed,,,

I found a deck pulley for the CC that was the same diameter, but, for a "B" belt, rather than an "A",,
since the "A" belt sat deeper in the pulley,, the mower deck ran faster,, IT WORKED!!

The Cub Cadet now had the cut quality I had seen on other GT's for years,,

WOOT!!

You obviously missed the point. He痴 had the mower for 20 years and is obviously happy with it. This is a problem solving thread.

It's more of a curiosity problem than a necessity problem, but it is a problem, nonetheless.

Tip speed and blade condition will determine cut quality. There are only two categories of tip speed; enough and not enough. If your blades are sharp and the cut quality suits you, your tip speed is adequate.
Next question please.
Or to fast, where the blade fractures & goes flying, through the side of the deck & hopefully not through anything or anybody important. The faster you spin the more force on whatever you are spinning, without even accout for it hitting brush, much less rocks or other hard obstacles. A pivoting blade can only relieve so much force when hitting something.

Laser tachs are dirt cheap on E-Bay out of China. I got one.

Measure spindle speed, blade length and do a little math. Easy Peasy!
