Hello and welcome from over the ditch. Try the clutch adjustment like Doxford jim says, as this is far cheaper than splitting.
If you do split the tractor and you have a 3 or 4 speed gear box then when putting back togather, as the gearbox input shaft reaches the clutch ,engage the pto and rock/rotate the rear pto shaft until the gearbox input shaft mates up with the clutch splines and slides in. NB this does not work with the multipower gearbox.
The 148 gearbox is a constant mesh type so will be "crunchy" until you get the knack of gear changing.
