How\'s Deere 2210 compared to Cub Cadet 5254

Newbie here,
I am in the process of finding the tractor I want to buy next spring. Cub Cadet and Deere are the only ones that are handled fairly close otherwise it's a pretty good drive.
Anyway I was wanting to know what the main differences are between the two as far as price, quality, dependability etc.
Am planning on getting the FEL and would like to put a 4" BH on it too. Can they handle a 4' BH. Does the Deere come with the Belly mower? Thanks for your time!

Re: How\'s Deere 2210 compared to Cub Cadet 5254

Welcome to the forum. It is a good source for info, although I don't know anything about the Cub, but can help with the 2210.

If you would take a moment and fill out your profile a little we could answer your questions a little easier. Lot size, projects ect.

The 2210 does not come with the belly mower, it is an option. Two are available, 54" and 62".
Backhoes are not available or recommended by John Deere but are available aftermarket. I would not put one on mine. I rented/borrowed one when the need arose.

Anymore specific questions I will be glad to help if I can. I am very pleased with my 2210 with 180 hours.

I BH is not available for the 5000 series Cub from Cub Cadet or aftermarket. You need to jump up to the 7000 series Cub for BH availability.

Re: How\'s Deere 2210 compared to Cub Cadet 5254

My place is about 5 acres. Where I mow (2 acres) is flat. The rest is rolling hills with Aspen, pine and birch mixed and alot of ferns. Would like to mow this other acreage with a brush hog a couple of times a years, mainly spring and fall to keep the tag alders and other such crap trees from over growing it.
I was wondering if the 2210 handles a 4' brush hog? What size FEL is generally put on it and the price. Know I would not have much choice as far as dealers there with Deere as there is only one about 50 miles from me. I have 2 Cub Cadet dealers one 15 miles away and the other 30.
Thanks again! - Richie

I regularly use a 4' hog on my JD2210. Tall grass over the hood doesn't even slow it down.
I too contemplated which to buy a cub or a deere. I finally got the deere in late July. Purchased for $12,200 with 62" mid mower, 54" front end loader w/ ballast box. Luckily a guy at work GAVE me a 4' bush hog. I have a couple pictures in the photo section.
Have 10 hours on it and trying to find more work for it to do!

I have not been around the Cub Cadet's much but my nieghbor whom I have not met yet owns the local New Holland dealer and they just took on Cub Cadet. In his yard is the Cadet. Now I am not sure if it is because they just took on the Cadet's or if thinks the Cadet is a better tractor than the New Holland. He has more New Holland's on his lot. Any way I think they are a pretty good tractor. My recomendation to you is to get out and test drive both of them. Get to know the dealer a bit and I would buy from the one you like best and the dealer you think is going to give you the best service. For some fifty miles away is a long ways, others it is not. Make sure you ask the Deere dealer what charges there are for pickup and delivery on service.

Re: How\'s Deere 2210 compared to Cub Cadet 5254

I am mowing 3.5 hilly acres plus the road ditch with my 2210. It is extremely stable and has a ROPS to keep your a** from buying the farm . I too pursued knowledge of the Cub when shopping. I found some info on the 5254 on the web. I didn not pursue the cub for two reasons; no dealers (that I could find), and I think it's ugly. The 2210 gets a 210 front end loader with 620 lb capactiy. I believe it's a 54" bucket. the FEL removes from the 2210 in literally in seconds. what takes the time and effort is managing the little plastic dust caps on the hydraulic connections beleive it or not. I can dig dirt and move loose dirt easily. I have over 100 hours on mine. Oops, you asked price; I bought mine in a package deal so have no idea price of FEL. the 2210 with 62"mmm, Rear blade, 52" roto tiller, and FEL was $14,500

Re: How\'s Deere 2210 compared to Cub Cadet 5254

Richie, the day I bought my Cub 5234D I had the opportunity to operate both the JD 2210 and the 5234D within a couple hours of each other, both had loaders. What stood out right away was with the Cub's sloped hood, it was much easier to see what you are doing with the FEL compared to the JD 2210's old fashioned squared off hood. Also, instead of comparing the gas 5254 with the diesel powered 2210 consider the diesel 5234D. Might make for a better comparison. I think the Cub 5234D is a better tractor and better value than the JD 2210.

I also have a great Cub dealer to work with which is a big part of the buying decision. I could have bought either tractor but I don't think the salesman at Deere could have cared less about selling a tractor that day. That is not the first time I had encountered that attitude at a JD dealership.

Good luck

Re: How\'s Deere 2210 compared to Cub Cadet 5254

I really appeciate all the input everyone has given. Tomorrow I head back north to my real home and start to do some shopping . Sometimes I think this is part of the best fun, shopping for that toy. The Cadet dealers out number the JD's 2 to one there and both CC dealers are much closer and sure that this will weigh heavily on my final opt toward JD or CC.
I am sure I will have more questions when I get back and can be sure I will take notes while I am there. Both tractors sound like they are what I want and need. Maybe one of each, eh! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
See you all in a couple of weeks.

Let's see some pics of that Cub. I sometimes wish I could have found a dealer just to try one.

But it will be available sometime soon, from Cub from what I have heard from my dealer and others...
