How's everyone doing with the SNOW

Most winters that would be a really pretty scene but after this winter it just doesn't seem to have the same impact.

I was out cleaning off the paved lane a bit yesterday (rich neighbor with a truck plow mostly does it, but I help) and stopped to admire the view. The lane passes over a culvert, with our little stream below.

That is a pretty scene. You got running water! Our creeks are still frozen about 2' deep.

George - If the thought of me and a chainsaw scares you, think on this: Until a year ago I was a professional shotgunner. I shot clay target tournaments - sporting clays and skeet - and gave lessons to folks who wanted to learn to shoot better. I even wrote a book about it that still sells well and spends a lot of time on Amazon's Best Seller List. The last year I was ranked (2011) I was ranked #3 in the North East (NY & North). I had to quit shooting and giving lessons because I tore my left rotater cuff pulling a wood splitter by hand that should have been towed instead. Can't hold up a gun anymore.

I seem to be a complete dunce only with a tractor (and wood splitters). Chainsaws, shotguns and nuclear power plants are no problem.

Looking4new: Front mount blower would be no help. I've done MORE damage with my FEL than my rear mount blower. The FEL damage is just easier to fix. :)

Bet you were looking backwards and not paying attention to where the FEL was. IF the blower was on the front, then you wouldn't need to look backwards other than in your mirrors, if any.:)

Looking4new: You're partly right. The deck stairs baluster wipeout was because I was a) too close to begin with and 2) watching the blower and completely forgetting about the FEL bucket. But there have been 3 occasions now - the propane tank excitement, the dryer vent wipeout and the shed door today - where I lost track of the front edge of the bucket under all the snow. Because I can't see it, I don't realize it's as close to an object as it is. This is compounded by the fact that the distance the bucket sticks out in front is dependent on the angle of the bucket and the height of the booms.

I'll get the feel for it eventually I'm sure. I just hope my house is still standing when I finally do.

You keep on plowing Mark. You make the rest of us look a lot better then our wives had thought we were.
I got an inch of "partly cloudy chance of flurries" today. but that's OK as we've had enough sun so that it is now melting faster then it's coming in. Should be all gone by the middle of April.

Hmmmm, the nuclear power plant thing may actually keep me up tonight! Uhh, how much time did you spend at three mile island? Been at several fossil fuels, and went through the classes to go to Calvert Cliffs on a refuel, but got called way closer to home for a job.

Truly sorry to hear about your arm, I am not as old as you would think I am by watching me try to walk, but I'm afraid real bad arthritis affects my shooting as well. The good news is that I got my tractor because of the arthritis, and ran into the fine folks here on the forum.

I'll try to tick off everybody, one at a time, my new goal, until then, let's keep blowing black smoke at the World!

Slacker!! If you had any ambition left you'd work on really ticking people off in bunches.
Keep the wheels down and the seat above the water.

George: No need to lose any sleep on my account. I was Navy nuclear power on attack boats. That is, unless you were at or near New London CT in '74. Then you may have a problem... See, we had this little 'ole primary coolant leak in the auxiliary machinery room that we flushed into the river instead of cleaning it up. So much easier that way.

Just kidding!!

Interesting about your arthritis. My shoulder was a big reason I got my tractor - the shoveling was killing me. That's also why I try to get so close to everything with Big Red (and end up feeding it to him). Less shoveling - less pain. But unfortunately, big repair bills.

Two farmers talkin' over the back fence.

#1 "How's that hired hand of yours?"
#2 "Oh, Christ, he just wrecked ma wagon."
#1 "He the same one whut spoiled your daughtah?"
#2 "Ayuh."
#1 "Careless, ain't he?"

I think truth be told we've all had "Close encounter of the third kind." A couple weeks ago I spun the tractor around with a load of snow and managed to back the corner of the ballast box into the front bumper. No damage except a vertical crease in the license plate, visible only to me.....:(
