Howse Attachments

I have a Howse 5' brush hog and it works fine for my purposes. While it probably won't outlast a BrushHog, Woods, or LandPride equivalent, it beat them in an area most important to me at the time: price.

Have a Howse "brush hog" and its been fine for me. Given it quite a beating over the past 13 years, first on an old Ford 9N and now on a TC40D. Bought it used from a used equipment dealer who rented it out. Has quite a few dents and dings but still works just fine despite the hundres of 2 inch trees and large bushes it has "encountered" over the years...

Like the other brands, Howse makes light, medium, and heavy duty implements. I have a light duty Howse 500 (5' brush hog) and it certainly is not the quality of the 4' Bush Hog I used to have, but it's plenty good enough for my use (been using it 2 years now) and a lot cheaper. I also have a 5' Howse box blade. No complaints with either implement so far.

I have a 5' Howse box blade like Bird's, only mine has a hinged rear blade. Not quite sure what good having it hinged is (we've had lots o' discussion about that here), but I've used the tool quite extensively for about a year and it's holding up just fine.

I also have the Howse 500 Rotary Cutter, uh, again like Bird, and although I haven't used it as much as the box blade yet, it has been well up to the tasks I've put it to so far.

All in all, I have no complaints with either. Hmmmm.... like Bird. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif

I've got a 5' Howse box blade, and really like it. Built much heavier that Land Pride and Woods, it has 1/4" side plates on it. Bought it a few months ago from an implement dealer for $200. Has the hinged rear blade and 5 rippers.

I purchased a four-foot Howse box blade about a year ago; it has the hinged rear blade. The implement is heavily built and I was able to purchase it new at a good price. I would caution anyone considering the purchase of any Howse implement to only buy one that is on the dealer's lot and can be inspected closely before purchase. The welding and positioning of parts during assembly varies from excellent to absolutely horrible. Although I have never welded anything, I am convinced that I could do as well on my first attempt as what I observed on some of the implements on the dealer's lot. Some of the welds perched on top of the join; I swear that if I knocked it off with a hammer the joint would be loose. Other welds were burned in so far on 1/4 inch steel that the metal bulged on the bottom side and there appeared to only to be about 1/8 inch of metal in the joint. I was lucky in that the dealer had just received a shipment of several four-foot box blades and I was able to choose the best of the lot. Even then, the paint was so bad that I painted it soon after purchase. I don't claim that my Howse blade is equal to a Land Pride, but the price was a little more than half that of the Land Pride and the Howse is heavily built and works well. With careful selection you probably can come up with a good one. This lack of quality control is a shame, because I've seen a number of old Howse box blades and they looked great.

Eno,
I also have a light duty 5 ft. cutter and also a 6 ft. landscape rake. My only complaint is the paint, it looks like they use water base barn paint. I had to repaint both right away to stop any rust. Other than that they are good for what you pay to buy them.

Almost sounds like Bird's stuff gets ALOT of use. If you don't mind Harv, can I have first dibs on his tiller this spring?

Help yourself, Unused. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif I have no need for a tiller.

Yet. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
