I would look at a 3point sprayer and spray some,TSC has some stuff Pasture Pro that is like Grazon. It is safe to spray with cattle on pasture and will help get a handle on them weeds. With cows on there I dont believe his grass is going to be very thick, and if he does just toping the weeds and not cutting the grass would be the thing to do,if running cows on it also. Thats why I like the pull-type set it and go and him not having draft control,I think will have to work shredder being a 3point,if its uneven. Hey JBowie MAY have a tropical storm coming into Gulf, hope you get some rain out of it...

Good idea on spraying, and, yes, we'd love to have the rain.

Got the tractor and shredder today. Pics later.

Had a tremendous amount of fun today, and all went well. I see now what folks are talking about with the weight and HP. However, based on what I did today, I can't imagine ever needing / wanting to cut faster than what I can do in high first. It cut just fine there, and the "ride" was actually much more comfortable at low 4th. Here are some pics:

Your tractor is new so expect to "gain" a little power after it breaks in. I have a L5040 with the same engine as yours and I can tell its got more power now at 230 hours than it did in the first 25 or so. Everything smooths up and first thing you know your tractor is going faster and doing more work than it did when brand new. That is the Landpride 3596? How is your lift? No strain I expect?

Thanks for the info on breaking in the tractor.

Yes, the shredder is the land pride 3596. It worked great -- seems to lift ok when needed and didn't bog down at the speeds I was running, I could tell a difference going uphill, but generally I was very happy. That said, quite frankly, other than one other time at a friend's house, it's really the first tractor and shredder I've ever run, so I don't have anything to compare it to.

New potential issue to consider, however. Being a newbie, I read the operator's manual, which says I shouldn't use a 3ph shredder greater than 7 feet or 1200 lbs. Well, the 3596 is 8 feet and 1340 or so. (I don't recall the actual lift capacity on the tractor -I'll have to look that up.) I started this thread when I read the shredder's specs, but I didn't see the tractor's recommendation until the manual was delivered with the tractor. Like I said, I ran the shredder and love it. Prior to that, I received reassurances from the salesman, and the service tech who happened to deliver it, in addition to more than half the folks who responded to this thread. So, I'm probably going to keep it. But, I suppose I might be taking a risk if I have any tractor malfunctions related to running an implement larger than what's listed in the manual, and I need to make a warranty claim.

Bilrus61, have you've been happy with your 5040? Any issues I should look out for?

Do not worry in the least about the manual saying up to 7 foot. Really. Kubota is very conservative on their manual and your tractor has a big strong transmission on it. Yours has Planetary gear final drive instead of spur gear like my L5040. Yours is heavy duty transmisson. Sleep sound.

I'm disabled and can't use my legs so I got the L5040 with the glide shift transmission on it. I've got 235 hours on it and so far its been a perfect tractor. No issues at all. Every minute of seat time has been a delight......well except the hornet that stung me on friday. That engine is just a peach, smooth and powerful and no cooling issues. On my L4200 you had to keep the screen almost spotless or it would start to run warm. Last year I was mowing fuzzy weeds with my MX6 mower I noticed that my engine temp had went from 4 dots to 5. I finished and check the screen and it was totally packed up. Very impressed with how cool this engine runs in the fluff of bushhogging.
Some more advice. Get yourself a good grease gun with a flexible tube and grease everything. The dealer almost always missing a grease fitting or two. Grease your mower and your back wheel spindels frequently. I think most operators never change out the gear oil in their mowers. Its $$ and messy and takes a couple hours. Do it! Wait till about ten hours of mower use, actuall mower use hours, then change out the gear oil. You'll get out lots of metal shavings and that helps preserve your bottom seals on your gearboxes. Enjoy your new tractor and I think its a nice balanced outfit that will last you a VERY long time.

Oh I like the grease guns that are "pistol" operated. John Deere has a nice pistol lever grease gun. Makes it easier to use and there is one thing you need when your greasing and thats easier.

Thanks, bilrus61. Appreciate the comments and advice. I picked up a grease gun last night. Tractor was delivered with 1.3 hrs. Now has close to 7. Funny thing is, I haven't even signed the papers yet. The dealer knows how to set the hook.
