HSBC Bank -v- Boy Scouts

The local employees of the organisation seemed more interested in the business of scouting than in the spirit

Depends on who you are referring to. My mom was the office manger for our council for 22 years. It was her job to run the local office (store) and oversee the council finances as well as the finances for the Scout camp. Her focus was as you say on the "business of scouting". I have however met many "professional scouters" who are more into the local politics of scouting (who sits on what board ect.) than on the program they are paid to promote.

Between the teachings of my parents, the Boy Scouts and my church, my moral compass is not easily deflected by our culture's ever changing situational morality.

I guess I felt that the business part seemed to be too intrusive. Certainly, someone has to watch the books, but in my experience, limited as I say to a particular time frame and place, the emphasis seemed to be more on expanding the business than on the scouting.

Here's hoping the directions we get from our compasses don't cause us to run over each other too much. If this group is representative of the poputation as a whole, I suspect we'll do OK.

This story just on national news (Fox). Just saw it down here in Florida. I think I'm quoting right "the bank is going to loose 3.8 million dollars over it" Didn't hear whether that was deposits, business or what. Just caught the end of story.

Not just HSBC. Carrier Corp is not spending the annual $50k on the boys dinner fund raiser. They seek funds from the public sector (as well as the private) and they are being held accountable.

While the bank lost some business (the gov't should stay out of it) they have more to worry about in the public image than stock value for now. Carrier Corp is not spending their annual $50k this year for the boys dinner fund raiser and other companies are following suit.

I guess it becomes a game of chicken and no one will move. Someone will get hurt in the end.
