HST and Hydrualic Oil Filter Question

I need to do my 50 our maintenance on my L3800 and had a few questions. My tractor has both a HST oil filter and a Hydraulic oil filter. Why, I'm not sure since both the HST and Hydraulics use the same fluid that is in the tractor, correct? For the 50 hour maintenance, I have to change both filters, not the HST/Hydraulic oil, just the filters. When I go to take the HST and Hydraulic filter off, won't the hydraulic fluid start pouring out or are the filters above the reservoir for the oil?

You will lose some and the manual, at least mine states to drain the fluid then change filters and replace the oil. We didn't bother with that and only lost one quart of hydraulic fluid when we change on our L5030. You can't take your time, but it is doable.

Yep, I did lose some changing the hydraulic filter. You do have to be quit.

Didn't someone hook up a shop vac to the Filler hole??? To keep from losing oil... or I might be dreaming this stuff up. :confused2:

For what it's worth, I changed my oil at 50 hours and I REALLY wish I didn't... it was very clean - new looking. I was worried about metal in the oil but that's what the oil filter is there for. Just be quick and ready with the other filter in hand!!!

Deano suggested this and others have successfully used this trick. Deano also suggested that it helps to have a bikini clad assistant holding the shop vac hose.:thumbsup:
