True, these details should be worked out ahead of time. The top mechanics at a dealership should make 1/3 of the labor rate. At $100/hr=$33/ hr, gross. After taxes, figure around $20-$24/hr take home.

Thanks for the help guys. I gave him more (closer to 40 pr hr) and I think if I have him do more work I'll probably tell him 30 an hr and obviously make sure he's OK with it before getting started.

How much did you end up spending for everything vs. dealer cost??

$300 for labor and then about $80 for engine oil, 1 qt SUDT, 2 fuel filters, oil filters (engine and transmission).

If I hadn't destroyed my HST fan the labor to do the 50 hr would have taken less than 2 hrs. Because we had much of the machine apart for the fan replacement the 50 hr was considerably easier.

I'm looking forward to keeping my new fan in tip top shape for the foreseeable future!
