Greetings, I'm a newby to this forum and have been reading up on some very good info regarding several brands of tractors here and I have a few questions re. the Kubota BX2230 & B7510HSD.

Doing some serious cipher'n on replacing my 48 TE20 & '04 L130 w/a single CUT w/a loader & 3PH and I've test driven the 2210, BZ2230 & B7510HSD and I've liked 'em all!
I liked the "feel" of the B7510 best but the one I test drove w/ only an hr on it whined in all speeds & rpms. 2wd or 4wd didn't matter. The rep said this was normal. It would get drowned out by the deck no doubt but I am curious, is it really is normal for the B7510's HST to whine with only 218lbs of load (me)?
It was a fairly warm day and the tractor was "cold".

Which ever machine I decide to go with will be a mower 1st and a utility tractor 2nd as I've pretty much tamed the back 40 (really only around 4 acres) w/ the TE20 but an FEL and ability to use 3PH implements is very desireable.

Best pricing thus far;
a) 2210 w/ FEL & 54" MMM, $13,228
(2 other JD dealers want $15,150 w/ FEL & 62" MMM)
b) BX2310 w/FEL & 62" MMM, $12,200
c) BX23 w/62" MMM $16,800
d) B7510 w/FEL & 62" MMM, $14,100

I've got about 530 hours on my whining B2910 in two years and I can tell you that whine is as natural as what I hear inside the house, being married and all... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

My B7500 has been whining since September of 2002. HST transmissions make that sound. Nothing to worry about.

Volfandt,

I had a BX 2200 for a year, and now have a B7610. Both make the same HST music. As with fine wine (whine?), it's an acquired taste. Granted, it's not the booming basso profundo of a two cylinder JD, but it's charming in its own way.

Has anyone figured out how to make a three or four cylinder diesel sound like a John Deere A? Now that would be a worthwhile mod.

Thanks for the replys. Hope all had a great Thanksgiving.
My L130's HST whines a bit when cold but quiets up when warn. So as long as a whine is normal & not an indicator of trouble in the Kubota then I can live with it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A few more questions if'n ya don't mind...

Re. finish mowing with a B7510. I took note of the reply about Kubota adapting the BX deck to a special B7510 tractor in the spring and I doubt I'll wait that long should I decide to "take the plung". What with strikeing whilst the irons hot and all. Mamasan will find something to do with the money if I leave it around her to long and she's already going to extract her share anyways /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
But it does raise a question or two or three.
I know that in the garden tractor world, Simplicity has had great success w/ their decks that rolls on the ground and my ole Wheelhorse's deck does the same, so I'm not sure if this is a bad thing or not. The BX's deck floats so I'm assuming the B deck must not, i.e. it must roll along the ground.
Is the cut of the B series not as good as the BX? Does the deck gouge? Is there problems w/ rollers wearing out?

Of course the Kubota rep told me the cut of the BX is ALMOST the same as a premium riding mower, so is the cut on both the BX & B REALLY similar in appearance as a riding mower?
I'm not looking for lawn stripes or the like, just a neat even finish..

Is there a mulching kit for the B7510's deck and has anyone have & use one? If so, how does it do?

In looking at tire selection, wouldn't R4's be easier on turf than bars?

Lastly, other than an impressive test drive and getting a price, (did I mention I liked the feel of the 7510 best, ahem) I didn't spend much time discussing the capabilities of the B7510 so if'n you don't mind, I'll run 'em past y'all....
I've got all kinds of 3PH implements that I've been told won't work on the Limited Cat 1 3PH of the BX2230 but now that the B7510 keeps looking better & better, thoughts of my 5' yardbox, boom pole, potato plow, single row disk harrow and perhaps even my 5' Howse bush hog keep dancing in my head, errr ahh or should I say, dancing on the 3PH of a B7510. Will these afore mentioned implements dance, errr ahhh, I mean work on the B7510?

Thanks

Volfandt,

For better or worse, I will give you my honest opinion.

I have a BX2200. I like it for what it is. But I like my larger tractor better, which is a B2910.

My B2910 (with RFM) did as good a job cutting my yard as my old MTD yardman garden tractor did. Maybe better. The BX does a good job too. It is hard to gage how well these things work, from reports of others, since we all have different expectations and levels of satisfaction.

I have said it before, and will say it again here, if I had to have only one tractor for my 3.7 acres (especially now that I got a lot of the heavy work done) it would not be a BX. It would likely be a 7500 (or whatever this year's model number is).

The two shortcomings of the BX are low ground clearance and VERY limited (in my opinion) 3PH capability.

An advantage of the BX is probably that it has a lower center of gravity, and more stable on slopes, when sideways. This is speculation on my part, but I can say I have been comfortable sideways on the bx where I would never get sideways on the B2910.

Now on the mowing quality, one question is how smooth is the ground the grass is growing on. There is in theory a smoothing out effect of having a suspended mower if the ground is real rough.

My yard (I can't say I have a lawn) is not that smooth, but I really think the difference between the BX and my B2910 RFM was not that great. Keep in mind though, I traded in my RFM when I got the BX, so I never had the chance to do or interest in doing a side by side comparison.

If push came to shove, and I had to give you a recommendation, I would say go for the larger tractor with a more standard sized 3PH. At least if you are planning to have only one tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My B7510HSD has a pretty good whine to it with only 7.5 hours on it (hope to up that number tomorrow).

I don't know anythng about mowers but I can tell you I almost bought a BX2230. I got an uneasy feeling while waiting for tires to come in for it and went back and looked again. The B7510 was a lot better choice for me and only cost about 11% more than the BX.

For me, the extra $ were well worth it. Twice the ground clearance, not nearly as many vulnerable underbelly parts, B7510 has a more complete instrument panel including tach.

Depends on what your overall usage is but better to go bigger than you think you will need. Every once in a while I start lusting after an M120 even though I know it wouldn't even go in my tractor shed. But, A/C would be kinda nice...........
