I am considering purchasing a 3510 or a 3510 HST. I understand that the HST would be much easier for my wife to drive. Anyone with experiences with the HST? The dealer said that he had not had any problems with the HST's but he just liked the gear driven tractors better. What do you think??

I own a 2615 HST, first tractor I've personally owned, one of hundreds I've operated.

If you wan't to move some dirt/mulch, mow grass, landscape, IMO the HST is without a doubt the way to go. Gear drive if you plan to use large ground engaging tools.

I couldn't have picked a better tool for my purposes.

I've got the 2810HST. I think the 3510HST is very similar with more power. Gear drive is pretty simple to operate & easy with a shuttle but, the hydro is even easier. The pedals are simple, one forward & one back. Push harder for more speed, let off & it stops. You'll rarely use your brakes. Try both & if your wife is going to operate it, bring her with you. I think the 3510 is a larger frame w/ a larger loader than the 3510HST.

I have a Kioti DK-40 shuttle shift and a Mahindra 2810HST in the yard. They are both great tractors and I use both a lot, but I prefer HST over the shuttle shift.

HST drives like no other transmission you have ever used.
It takes a little getting use to but you drive it like your riding the clutch you will get the hang of it right off, and your not hurting anything. It is the way your supposed to drive HST.

The other great thing about HST if your in low range and on a hill, when you take you foot off the pedal the tractor stops.
When your are in 4 wheel drive your front tires are braking also.

When you push the clutch in on the shuttle shift your are free wheeling and better have the other foot on the brake.

If your wife is going drive it she will like the HST better.

Good luck on what you get .

The truth is even though I like HST better, I just love driving tractors , what ever they are.

Also they are two differant tractors.

The 3510 is made in India by Mahindra,
And the 3510HST is made in Korea by TYM for Mahindra.

I disagree. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

All 10 series are built in S. Korea by TYM. The 3510HST is based on the smaller frame (was a 2810HST) and the 3510 (shuttle) is basically a 4110 with a cylinder missing and smaller tires. Interesting that about 70% of TYM's production goes to Mahindra.

By the way Dave, you did a good job describing how an HST works. It is a little odd until you get used to it. The first time I drove one I took off up a steep hill and pressed the hydro pedal all the way down, which was the exact wrong thing to do! The hydro in the 10 series is exceptionally quiet compared to other brands. These are great machines.

Dave, you are right ..

All the 10 series are made by TYM. It is the 00 series that Mahindra makes in India.

It looks like the 2310HST, 2810HST and the 3510HST are all the same tractor with differant motors, there weight and tires are the same.

There is a big weight differance between the 3510 and the 3510HST , about 800 pounds .

Thanks for setting me straight Dave. Looks like I started typing before I engaged my brain /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
