I'm getting some hum dingers of static shocks..and its getting so I don't dare to pat our cat anymore or give the wife a kiss /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif and I reset from 35% to 65% for humidity level, and the static spark gone from a light blue to almost a white spark...could almost start Briggs engine /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif..this is the worst its ever been. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

1.I like my wood heat..I have feeling thats causing the problem.
2.Wife has long hair.
3.My hair below the shoulders.
4.Short hair cat.

What do you folks run your homes at for humidity levels?..any ideas how to control this problem, other than dragging a grounding wire or Cling Frees. /w3tcompact/icons/sad.gif

Morning Thomas. We have the same problem in our house. We use forced hot air and we have a humidifier attached to the air duct, but it still is dry and we have some static problems. However, we do not have many carpets, which helps a little. The only thing I know to do is add more humidity.

My wife just prove to me again I'm the only one w/this static problem, for she cat pat the cat..touch anything in the house w/out getting a shock. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Coffee dehydrate one body which can off set a chemical balance, plus wearing winter clothes now..but to cause such shocks..ahh just find that hard to believe. /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Dr.Wife also said cut down on my coffee intake to couple of cups and day /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif and start useing bath & hand lotion..think I'll purchase Scotch 3M static spray, and spray the Maxwell House jar & cat,and eat more KFC chicken and see what happens. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Happy Holiday to you Mike and your family.

Thomas, now that is unusual...only you have the static problem. Hmm. While I might be able to use hand lotion, I don't know if I'd be willing to reduce my coffee intake. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones, Thomas.

Hi Thomas..NH,
I had the same problem, along with alot of sinus problems
for the last few months. Dr. said to raise humidity level. I
raised mine also, from 25 to 50% with no relief. I bought a
temp. gage/humidity meter at Radio Shack. I think it was
less than $10.00. Found humidifier on furnace was not up to
par. I dis-assembled entire thing, cleaned it, used lime away
on it and changed filters. When I set humidity up to 50%
before cleaning humidifier, I found I was only getting 28%.
Now I,m getting 40% when it is set at 50%. Feel better, and
I'm no longer sending the dog under the bed when I pet him.

The Radio Shack unit is called: Indoor thermometer/indoor Hygrometer. Part # 63-1036. Hope this helps.

Thomas:
Do you by any chance wear wool socks and have wood floors. Maybe placing a bucket of water on your wood stove if this is possible. There are portable humidifiers but they can lead to other problems with little thingies growing in them.
Of course you could also eliminate all those activities that create sparks.

Good Cheer
Egon
