Humvee is getting replaced by a Chevrolet-Silverado-HD-powered armored truck

I learned that in Los Angeles airport in 1972 coming home from Vietnam. Taught to me by Hippie freak nobodies that wouldn't have lasted a week where I'd been.

Still practice it today. It's called Situational Awareness.

I've never seen combat, never even been in the military... (My hat's off to those of you who have, thank you for your service) but practice situational awareness also. As said, seat with the best view of points of egress, back to the wall if possible, wife and kids know which seat to save for me.

The Humvees started life with the Detroit design 6.2L GM NA diesels, same as was found in the GM CUCV one ton trucks. It later went to 6.5L of the same basic design, and followed by a turbo version of the 6.5L, all of which were less than adequate for hauling around the stock Humvees, let alone extra armor!

That photo looks like the new vehicle either has a butt load of negative camber or the suspension has already succumbed to the extra weight.

I guess the tax payers will keep subsidizing Government Motors till the end of time.

When we drove them out of AM General, as I recall, they were governed and top speed on the highway was about 55-62ish depending on wind load, hills, if it had a top or not, ambulance body, etc... however, we sometimes put on a tow-bar, and towed a 2nd one behind us to save a driver and a trip. It still went 55-62ish on the highway. Sometimes we'd "accidentally" make a wrong turn in the parking field at AM General and "accidentally" end up on the off-road test area on the northwest corner of the property. I was impressed with their off-road ability, and did not find them underpowered at all.

Read the article and look at the pictures. It has the ability to raise and lower the suspension. That picture is probably at its lowest setting.

From the article...

"Oshkosh fits each JLTV with its TAK-4i suspension system. A fully independent double-wishbone design with electronically adjustable high-pressure gas shocks, Oshkosh tuned the JLTV's TAK-4i suspension in the Baja 1000, giving this military off-roader some serious Ford F-150 Raptor-rivaling chops. The JLTV's suspension has 20 inches of wheel travel and the ability to raise and lower the suspension as needed, negating the need for portal axles. Without the optional snorkel kit, and with its suspension in its highest setting, the JLTV can ford 5 feet of water without breaking a sweat. Like the Humvee, the JLTV also has a full-time four-wheel-drive system with low-range, locking differentials, and a CTIS."

Today, with Antifa scum, not much has changed.

Holland has its own Vietnam, or perhaps worse. On very rare occasions in a drunk mood, some Dutch east india veterans (1945-1947 before Indonesia became independent) told about coming back from patrol at the camp, to find the heads of their comrades spiked to the railing of the bridge, and them retaliating in blind rage on civilian population... Its something our history books rather not write about, but that was a dirty war...

And 14,000 pound empty weight. More than my 32' Class 'C' RV. Sheesh, gotta be a wallowing pig.

The center of gravity is a lot lower than an RV so i dont think the two are comparable 👍
